Miles of beach to explore

Northam Burrows, Devon

St Margaret

Grade l Listed

Foggy morning in the town of Northam. We don't get a lot of fog around Perth so it was pleasant to see Northam blanketed.

47372 at Northam Junction with a southbound liner on the 28th of August 1998.

47329 with a southbound liner at Northam Junction, back in August 1998.

A rather tatty 47314 heads through Northam Junction and onto the Southampton Eastern Docks branch with the 4O20 07:30 car train from Cowley on the 14 May 1996. This scene has changed for good. Southampton FC's St Mary's Stadium was built to the right and the footbridge this shot was taken from was then closed. The two sidings adjacent to the 47 are now used as headshunts for the Siemens Traincare depot located north of the road bridge. On the plus side, there is still a daily train of new cars from Cowley to Eastern Docks.

Gbrf Class 69/0 No.69005 Eastleigh is seen passing Northam C.S.D. on the 1st of August 2022, working the 12:30 4Y19 empty JNA’s from Mountfield Sidings to Southampton West Docks.

Taken with the aid of a pole.

Re-worked - Northam Burrows, Devon, shot 5 years ago on my old iphone.

Class 423 4-VEP 3486, seen at Northam Junction, back in September 1996.

A picture that probably goes a long way to explaining why Speedlink struggled financially, as the numerous trip workings were often poorly loaded. Here 47363 passes Northam Junction with the Eastleigh to Furzebrook trip on the 4 June 1991, with an empty ball clay wagon for Furzebrook and a fertilizer wagon for Holton Heath. The fertilizer traffic finished with Speedlink, but the ball clay traffic carried on until March 1992, but as the siding at Furzebrook could only accommodate two wagons at a time, it was presumably deemed uneconomic.

Today‘s re-processed shot is on Fuji Velvia, which I started using in the mid 1990s. Haven‘t scanned many yet, but find it harder to get the colours right than K25 or Provia. Anyway reasonably happy with this one after a bit of work on the iPhone. Wait for a 70 and three turn up !..., 70007 + 70010 pass Northam with 4M99 16.50 Southampton Maritime-Crewe Basford Hall meeting 70003 coming the other way with 4O35 09.31 Basford Hall-Maritime on 07/07/23.

A trip with friends to the southern Wheatbelt. Stopped off in a couple of towns on the way and then slept over to allow an early start the next morning.

This is the only predictable spot to get these in WA. The numbers seem to be diminishing however. We only counted 5 individuals but there is some hope as one was sat on a nest.

This was a great night seeing all the balloons ,

The 2015 National Ballooning Championships kicked off with a bang at this year’s host Community, Northam, putting on a festival on Saturday 29th August.

Estimates are that in excess of 2,000 people enjoyed the display and special thanks must go to the Championship competitors who put on the balloon glow.

2015 at the ballooning championships, was watching the balloons being prepared ,

Freightliner 66561 passes Mount Pleasant Road Crossing, Northam with a Crewe Basford Hall- Southampton MCT Liner. 10-09-20

I have a theory that the original livery is often the one that suits a train the best, as it was part of its overall design. That certainly applied to the Class 442 Wessex Electrics, which looked very stylish in their variation of NSE livery.
