Typically yellow overall, but some immatures can be almost completely gray. Most males have reddish-brown streaks below; females are plainer and duller yellow. Always looks uniform and plain-faced, with rather stout bill for a warbler. Favors brushy habitats near water, often foraging in shrubs fairly low to the ground. Common and widespread throughout North America; winters in Central and northern South America. “Mangrove” Yellow Warbler, currently considered a subspecies, is found in mangroves and nearby brush from Mexico to Ecuador. Males have a distinctive reddish-brown head.

Small flycatcher, extremely similar to several other species. Prefers shrubby open areas, especially around marshes. Western population prefers understory in riparian woods. Brownish above and pale below with barely any eyering. Wings dark with distinct white wingbars (brownish in Western population). Nearly identical to Alder Flycatcher; once considered the same species. Also compare with Least Flycatcher, which is very similar but has slightly shorter wingtips and a bolder eyering. Willow is larger, larger-headed, and longer-billed than other species of small flycatcher in the West; also note lack of a distinct eyering. Best identified by voice: song is a sneezing "FITZ-bew"; call is a dry "whit." Silent birds, especially in migration, often best left unidentified.

The American Stoat is a species of mustelid native to most of North America. It was long considered conspecific with the Stoat/Short-tailed Weasel (M. erminea), but a 2021 study found it to be a distinct species, forming distinct genetic clades from erminea. The finding has been accepted by the American Society of Mammalogists. The Haida Ermine (M. haidarum) is thought to be a hybrid species originating from ancient hybridization between M. erminea and M. richardsonii.
The species is found throughout most of North America aside from most of Alaska (although it is found on some islands in southeastern Alaska), eastern Yukon, most of Arctic Canada, and Greenland, where it is replaced by M. erminea. It reaches the northern extent of its range in Baffin Island and a portion of eastern mainland Nunavut and ranges from here to cover almost all of western North America south to northern New Mexico, and eastern North America south to northern Virginia. It is absent from most of the Southeastern United States and the Great Plains.

My inlaws had this phone as a decorative piece in their home, and we, in turn, have had it for many years. It's actually a small cabinet inside, since the innards have been ripped out.
The Northern Electric Company's roots go back into the nineteenth century. It was centered in Montreal for many years.
As time went on, it evolved into what is now known as Nortel, which has had a fairly checkered recent history. For many years, it was headquartered in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, which is not far from here. A lot of my buddies and acquaintances worked for Nortel. Some of them joined the company when it was still Northern Electric.

I didn't take this. A former co-worker from Nortel named Kirk took this one and even got this signed. Kirk gave this to me as a house-warming gift. I had recently moved from Kemptville, Ontario to downtown Ottawa. The signature at the bottom makes this photo very special to me.
