“love is the only flower that grows and blossoms without the aid of the seasons.”

Sometimes it's interesting to present the contortions a photographer goes through to get just the right composition. It took some effort to get into this tight spot as the rock was covered in a heavy layer of ice and snow, which required scooting in on all fours and sliding on your bottom - hence the wet pants. I'm looking forward to the final image with eager anticipation. No Pressure!
#5354 - 2022 Day 240: The moment of the song - Dakota, originally by Stereophonics, of course; the lead singer of No Pressure at the Riser festival this weekend. The Riser is The Rising Sun pub in my village, and No Pressure is a fantastic local band playing a mix of classic rock through the ages. My good bro plays bass guitar with them.
that silly flooz www.flickr.com/photos/flooznyc/3809978349/ tagged me to play this game. we've all done it before, but i told her i would play again and be a good sport. and some of YOU will be tagged by ME! muahhhahahahhaa!!
This is how it goes. List 10 things that your friends may or may not know about you, but that are true. Tag ten people and be sure to let them know they’ve been tagged (a quick message will do). Don’t forget to link back to the person who tagged you. Post a picture in your stream with the 10 facts and list your tagged people.
apparently i tell a lot of "stuff" about me here on flickr, since i had a hard time coming up w/ things that most of you don't already know about me. i thought for quite some time and these are all i could come up with (and yes, i realize a ton of you already know this stuff, but oh well.) happy monday!!
1. every time i see a picture of me holding this camera, it brings tears to my eyes. if you don't know the story, you should. it's pretty damn amazing. i love people. you all know who you are. thank you. again and again.
2.i have a phobia of diving in to any body of water (pool, lake, whatever) head-first. i have no idea why. i can jump in, and swim just fine, am not afraid of deep water (can SCUBA, etc.), have even jumped out of an airplane. but the head-first dive just freaks me out i guess. so i almost failed swimming in high school. no lie.
3. i currently have 273 unread yahoo mail messages, and 245 unread flickrmails, and 276 unanswered contact requests. this makes A LOT of people crazy (rhonda, flooz....). i'm actually ok w/ it. i'll get to 'em someday.
4. i used to be really focused. as a kid/student, i was able to read for hours, memorize, learn, understand, apply the information i learned, etc. i was patient and a very good student. somewhere along the line, i'm pretty sure i developed adult ADD. i hate it. i can't focus or stay on task.
5. the only bone i've ever broken was my tail-bone. i slipped on water landed on my butt while carrying a giant tray full of heavy salad bar tubs while waitressing at Pizza Hut in college. it was hot taking a doughnut pillow to college classes, believe me.
6. my fears include:
-thoughts of my dogs dying, and how i will cope
-me dying and having my body in a casket and looked at by a ton of people and then a catholic funeral and a big giant tombstone (all of which i do not want, but am sure my mom would do all this)
-never getting caught up financially
-getting my heart broken
-not being a good teacher/reaching all my kids
7. i feel sorry for
-dandelions because people always say they are ugly and weeds
-geraniums, because they are just looked at as a boring flower
-the color brown, cuz no one ever says it's their favorite color
-and dogs that aren't "cute", cuz they have feelings too.
8. i have a hard time throwing things away. not letting go of them. (there's a difference). i HATE HATE HATE the thought of filling land fills w/ stuff that we could use in a different way. i love to recycle and refurbish. and when it's something i just no longer want, i love to give it to someone who i think can use it, or sell it in a garage sale.
9. my family is not touchy-feely/warm fuzzy usually. but i have to say that i so enjoyed hanging out w/ my brother for about 6 weeks and getting to spend time w/ him as an adult. i'm so so proud of him. he really amazes me. (hi mark!! i KNOW you're reading this!)
10. 4 years ago, you never ever woulda guessed that i'd get to where i'm at now. in fact, i wouldn't have either. but i'm damn happy and looking so forward to the future. thanks to all of you who have been w/ me on this road.

Near the Glenwood Springs, Colorado, airport, this derelict boiler and the ruins of a dozen or so coke ovens are all that remain of Cardiff.
From the late 1880s through the early 20th Century, Cardiff was a small but thriving community where high-grade coal from area mines was cooked into coke, mostly to stoke the furnaces at Colorado Fuel and Iron in Pueblo.
Most of the Cardiff coal came from mines in Jerome Park, a valley above and about four miles from our house. Those mines were supported by two towns, Spring Gulch and Marion, which have been weathered and scavenged away till all that remains are few cabin foundations, a small cemetery in a scrub oak thicket, and the overgrown right-of-way where the narrow-gauge ore trains used to run.
Can you identify any of the individual's in this image? Looks like it could be Father Sean Conlon who was a Chaplain in the Defence Forces. Location unknown.
Thanks to EIDTG who provided most of the names and also to GMKTON and Markobrien.

Stormtrooper Bruce is one of the first to be paid a visit by Emperor Palpatine's nephew who is back visitng the Death Star. And this time he's on a mission.
Vader: Trooper, you remember the Emperor's nephew. He's here for a few days, and I've been assigned to escort him around the ship.
STB: How could I forget the Emperor's nephew? So good to see you again. Are you still going by a different name each day?
Sue: Of course I am. But Unka Pappy says it's hard to keep up and I should make it weekly instead of daily.
STB: Wonderful. And who are you today?
Sue: My name is Sue!
STB: OK. Um, well ... that's different. So, what do you have here, Sue?
Sue: I'm selling cases of this bubble gum. I'm trying to raise money for a worthy cause, and every case you buy will help! Unka Pappy has started a "Find the Droids" fund and I want to help. How many cases can I put you down for?
STB: Well, you certainly know your spiel, don't you? How many cases did Vader buy?
Sue: Oh, he hasn't bought any yet. Who ever buys the most, he promised to double that! He's the bestest ever!
STB: Yes he is. Well, you can put me down for ten cases. My trainees will love a little treat after a long hard day. And you know what? While you're here I think you should change your name twice a day. That will help your Unka Pappy keep his mind extra sharp.
Sue: Wow! That's awesome! Ten cases! Everyone else is just buying one. You're the bestest ever, too. And for the rest of the day I'm gonna be Mr. Bean!
Vader: Trooper, you do realize I won't forget this, don't you?
A few more images from this trip, will appear in the HAMBLE set.
More CANDIDS AND STREET SHOTS will follow as and when.

I found these shotgun cartridges in the spoilheap of a badger sett I found recently, some of the soil around the entrance has come away as well but there's no sign of human footprints or digging. The badgers may well have dug the cartridges out themselves, gave me a heart attack though when I found them. If anyone knows of any local badger setts it might be a good idea to check on them occasionally with all the persecution going on and now the flooding could affect them too, many families will have tiny cubs underground now so obviously it would be the worst time for people to disturb them.
The last couple of days I've been seeing way more of our badgers, really don't know why, there were four together last night and we've had several visits tonight already with two of them squabbling like they did in the summer. I'm pretty sure one was mother badger who I've not seen for ages and I've been worrying about, I know I shouldn't say this but when our neighbours try and block the badgers off it feels like how it might with a normal person having their children persecuted, it feels so personal. Now I'm whittling about the sett being flooded, dunno if the badgers have dug a new way in and that's why I'm seeing more of them. God I'm really rambling on now, I am completely obsessed I know : )
PS god I only just noticed that barbed wire, how did I not see that at the time ??! There is a fence behind, hopefully it's nothing sinister.
Theme of the Week: Bucket List
I'm going to be able to cross this one of the list in March!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And here's my fundraising pitch!
Hi Everyone!
Next March, I’m going to Bangalore India on a Women Build/Habitat for
Humanity volunteer trip. Along with 100 other volunteers from around
the globe, I’ll be working with Indian families to help build safe and
affordable homes. The project kicks off on March 8th, which is
International Women’s Day. We will be building in partnership with
rural and underprivileged Indian women who have formed microfinance
self-help groups so that they can save money to build better lives for
their families.
Most of you know that Women Build is a cause near and dear to my
heart. Over the past five years, I’ve been volunteering at Portland
Women Build alongside some truly amazing women. We have built four
homes and most importantly, have helped four families reach their goal
of owning a safe, affordable home. I’ll be traveling to India with
two other awesome Portland Women Build volunteers – Mel George and
Katie Hughes. And of course, I’ll be bringing my camera and I’m
really looking forward to documenting our journey and experiences.
Sounds fabulous, right? Here’s how you can help!
1) Donate online through my Habitat for Humanity Global Village webpage:
Heather's Women Build Trip Fund
I need to raise $1,950 for the trip fee, which covers my trip fees
like food and lodging, but also includes a donation toward the
IndiaBUILDS program. These donations will be paired will be paired
with the savings of women’s self-help groups to help some of India’s
poorest families gain better lives. And your donations are tax
deductible!
2) Donate toward my airfare fund at my paypal site
Airfare will be around $1,700 – I’m still on the lookout for a great
deal, but that’s a realistic figure.
At the risk of sounding like a bad infomercial, if you donate $50 or
more, I will send you an 8x10 print of your choice! Here’s a link to
some examples: prints for india
Please consider giving if you can. And if you can’t, all your good
thoughts, positive energy and fund-raising tips are also greatly
appreciated! (Or India travel tips!)
Take care,
Heather

If you find that your hot water pressure suddenly drops to a dribble on your RV, try the following:
Turn off city water supply
Turn off gas to hot water tank
Drain hot water tank - be careful, it will be hot
Disconnect hot water outlet connection from the back of the tank, indicated by the yellow arrow.
You should see a hidden check valve and o-ring. The oring will go bad. Take that out valve out and replace it.
Not everyone knows there is a check valve in there.
There's also another check valve at the city water connection which will also need to be replaced every now and then.
Ironic how this pink poster is just under the 2011 Miss Perfect 10 poster. Hello? I don't think there's really any such thing as a perfect 10. Now I understand in the eyes of someone that loves you, you could be a perfect 10 but everyone has their flaws. But hopefully you have more good points that far outweigh the bad ones. I know that society has gotten better in some ways about how beauty doesn't have to be a certain cookie cutter way but stuff like this still leaves many young folk feeling they have to live up to certain expectations. Isn't there enough pressure in life without crap like this?
Sorry ... rant off. ahem.
Pink-a-Day 71
You're invited...
to join us for FLICKR CHICKS - an all-girl meetup on Mon 4/28, 7pm.
A few of us gals put our heads together and decided it would be fun to coordinate a MEETUP FOR WOMEN PHOTOGRAPHERS in the area. [Guys, you're welcome to join us if you show up in head-to-toe drag! ;) ]
We're looking to make connections, share info, brainstorm projects, drink margaritas, eat some good food, and squish as many of us into the photobooth at once as humanly possible. No photowalk per se planned for this event - if it happens it will be improvised...but OF COURSE, you're bringing your camera and ALL of your accessories, right?!
DATE: Monday, April 28th
TIME: 7-9pm
PLACE: Tex Tubb's Taco Palace at 2009 Atwood Avenue (near the Barrymore Theater)
Date/time/location for this gig are set, if you can't make this one, there will be others.
We're already looking ahead to all sorts of cool ideas for social time with local flickrites of all genders. (I'm not here to debate the 'All-Girl' aspect of this meetup.)
Please repost, fwd, and otherwise distribute this info to potentially interested parties. Don't be shy, this will the first time for many of us meet one another in person!
See you there, girlfriend!
