In 2025 at least 350,000 people marched in the “banned” 30th Budapest Pride March, the March of Freedom. The (now ex) PM Orbán and his authorities did everything they could to intimidate and discourage us, even threatening us with prison, but we did not back down. Their surveillance systems broadcasted live the unfolding of the largest human rights movement in Hungary since the regime change in 1989. In 2026 it was totally different. The Orbán regime suffered a crushing defeat in the election this April, and this year’s Budapest Pride was no longer a protest against the regime - which had turned dictatorial - but a celebration of liberation. It was also heartening to see that, for instance, the police officers were all kind and supportive of us.
The last few months have seems me take a considerable series of steps forward and put into the light. I now fully embrace my femininity, feel confident with my gender fluidity to the point where I nearly wear what I want when I want to. I’ve found the confidence to show the world my particular take on beauty and although it’s unconventional, I’m finding it inspires others. I’ve learned to love myself and not feel ashamed for doing so. I can highly recommend it
