Ce géant d’une dizaine de mètres de haut dresse son armature sur le bastion Saint-Jaume, ancienne fortification Vauban qui protégeait l’entrée du port d’Antibes.
Constitué d’une dentelle de lettres majuscules en acier blanc, il se détache avec délicatesse sur le ciel généralement d’un bleu profond de la Côte d’Azur, évoquant une silhouette humaine aux formes courbes, assise devant la mer, une jambe repliée contre sa poitrine. Sa face est ouverte, les lettres s’y arrêtent soudainement, comme effacées par la beauté du paysage qu’il contemple.
This giant of a dozen feet tall erects its aerial reinforcement on the bastion Saint-Jaume, old fortification Vauban which protected the entrance of the port of Antibes.
Made up of a lace of uppercase letters in white steel, it stands out delicately on the sky generally deep blue of the Côte d'Azur, evoking a human figure with curved shapes, sitting in front of the sea, one leg folded against Her chest. His face is open, the letters stop there suddenly, as if erased by the beauty of the landscape he is contemplating.

Ladakh (Inde) - ça y est, nous sommes au Ladakh ! La typologie ethnique de la population est différente des Indiens croisés dans l’himachal Pradesh. Il en est de même pour la géologie. Après avoir franchi le col du Tangland-La (5.360 mètres) on redescend progressivement vers le Ladakh. Le paysage reste minéral, mais devient subitement aride. Les 5.360 mètres du Tangland-La se dressent face à la mousson qui vient du sud en stoppant les nuages, préservant le Ladakh des pluies diluviennes.
L'histoire du Ladakh, explique la spécificité ethnique de cette région qui a été sous l’autorité du Tibet depuis le 8è siècle. Mais il n'est réellement tibétanisé qu’au 10è siècle.
Si aujourd'hui les ladakhis revendiquent leur culture tibétaine, ils ne se considèrent plus comme tibétains depuis l’annexion de ce pays par la Chine en 1951.
Ladakh (India) - this is it, we are in Ladakh. The ethnic typology of the population is different from the Crusader Indians in Himachal-Pradesh. It is the same for geology. After crossing the Tangland-La pass (5,360 meters) we gradually descend to Ladakh. The landscape remains mineral, but suddenly becomes arid. The 5,360 meters of Tangland-La rise up against the monsoon which comes from the south by stopping the clouds, preserving Ladakh from torrential rains.
The history of Ladakh explains the ethnic specificity of this region which has been under Tibetan rule since the 8th century. But he was not really Tibetanized until the 10th century.
If today the Ladakhis claim their Tibetan culture, they no longer consider themselves Tibetans since the annexation of this country by China in 1951.

La première fois que j'ai voulu prendre cette structure en photo, il y a un peu plus d'un an, je suis arrivé sur le port d'Antibes 1 heure avant le lever du jour pour me rendre compte que la structure était complètement bachée pour cause de rénovation.
Quelques mois après, j'avais rendez-vous avec mon confrère, Antoine, pour renouveler l'opérartion nomade de grand matin afin de bénéficier d'une belle lumière. Mais ce matin là, nous avons appris à notre plus grand désespoir que le site était fermé pour cause de régates.
Le 31 janvier de cette année, en passant à proximité du site, nous avons décidé de nous y arrêter quelques instants en pleine journée pour enfin essayer de capturer ce fameux nomade. N'étant pas satisfait du résultat, j'y suis donc retourné une quatrième fois et, après 1h30 d'attente, je suis arrivé à... ça.
Après ce long palabre, je vous renvoie auprès de ANTOINE ASARO pour le descriptif de cette sculture :)
The first time I wanted to take a picture of this structure, a little over a year ago, I arrived at the port of Antibes 1 hour before daybreak to realize that the structure was completely covered for renovation.
A few months later, I had an appointment with my colleague, Antoine, to renew the nomadic operation early in the morning in order to benefit from a beautiful light. But this morning, we learned to our greatest despair that the site was closed due to regattas.
On January 31 of this year, passing near the site, we decided to stop there for a few moments in the middle of the day to finally try to capture this famous nomad. Not being satisfied with the result, I went back there a fourth time and, after an hour and a half wait, I arrived at ... that.
After this long palaver, I send you back to near ANTOINE ASARO for the description of this sculpture :)

La statue monumentale "Le Nomade" de Jaume Plensa domine le port d’Antibes de ses huit mètres de hauteur.
Exposée à cet emplacement lors de l'été 2007, la sculpture s’est intégrée dans le bastion Saint-Jaume. Ce grand personnage, assis sur les remparts de la ville, plonge un regard imaginaire vers l’immensité de la Méditerranée.
Le Nomade, est une composition diaphane toute en lettres blanches.
Jaume Plensa est un sculpteur contemporain catalan de renommée internationale né en 1955 à Barcelone
L’artiste est également l'auteur des bouddhas lumineux de la place Masséna à Nice.

Jaume Plensa a vécu et travaillé à Berlin, Bruxelles, à la fondation Henry Moore en Angleterre, mais aussi à l’atelier Calder à Saché en Indre et Loire. Il s’est rendu célèbre dès le début des années 1980 par de grandes formes simples en fonte.
