When the Noise Pollution gets so bad in the City,I go to my Quite Place.

There is some light pollution, but at least the aurora wasn't making a problem.

Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which events are held worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network www.earthday.org/ and celebrated in more than 192 countries each year.

In 1969 at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco, peace activist John McConnell proposed a day to honor the Earth and the concept of peace, to first be celebrated on March 21, 1970, the first day of spring in the northern hemisphere. This day of nature's equipoise was later sanctioned in a Proclamation written by McConnell and signed by Secretary General U Thant at the United Nations. A month later a separate Earth Day was founded by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in first held on April 22, 1970. Nelson was later awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award in recognition of his work. While this April 22 Earth Day was focused on the United States, an organization launched by Denis Hayes, who was the original national coordinator in 1970, took it international in 1990 and organized events in 141 nations. Numerous communities celebrate Earth Week, an entire week of activities focused on environmental issues.

Anybody else old enough to remember when people raked their leaves and burned them and the aroma of leaf smoke was sweet in the autumn air? Now everyboy uses leafblowers and what do we get? Noise pollution and gas fumes. Bah! And now that I'm looking at it, I see that this dissonant image is a whole lot prettier than the sound of the leafblowers I've been hearing all day.

Lets hope this is not the last time for racing at this great track. Hopefully common sense prevails!!!! RIP 01/09/2022

This track is basically in the middle of the country side, what hope is there for motor sport in Australia????

Are the cow's complaining? producing cheese instead of milk?

Indeed there have been no car boot days this year, due to the Coronavirus.

However, just beyond the hedge, the car parks are full of people coming out to have barbecues and exercise ... which is fine, but for the Boombox brigade!

Shades of: BAM BAM BAM BUBUBUBU BAM BAM BAM etc!

Why do people come to the countryside to make so much noise? It's SO irritating ,... there I am, half a mile away peacefully walking my dog and then that racket starts up!

Oh well, should just be happy I live nearby and don't have to leave a city dwelling I suppose!

They say that the people that Live in the Pearl, can look forward too Three more year's of Noise Pollution.

My first attempt at capturing a night sky - I have a long way to go.

One of the few remaining open tracts of land in the area which is now also being developed yet the roadways leading to this tract have not been improved or widened nor has the traffic flow. We have repeatedly asked for traffic lights near a hazardous railroad crossing. There has been an enormous amount of dumping by contractors on this particular site for years while the owners of the hospital turned a blind eye to it (it is adjacent to a medical facility, most of which is vacant) and the surrounding area,. There is also a quarry w. slurry ponds across from this site which spews enormous amounts of particulate into the air and they, too, are also required to adhere to standards set which are not enforced or followed. There are 22 cell towers within a 4 mile radius of this site. I've been told now this property is being developed into a Thornton's contact center.

As of Jan. 16, 2025 (9 years from the date of the above post) there are now 62 towers in the 40245 zip code area, which equates to 7 towers per sq mile, per www.celltowermaps.com/cell-towers/near/zip-code/40245

of everything that moves outside again in spring, urban sketchers provide the least amount of noise pollution.

Still working on the "Poltergeist Gates" on Lagrange Road, Louisville.

Update: 9/6/2017 - These gates now appear to be working correctly. A big THANK YOU to the CSX crews who've spent countless hours (months/years) ensuring these gates now function as originally designed in spite of the trials and tribulations they face in doing so.

www.bems.org/node/15216

I'm sure these workers are aware of the acute hazards, elevated cancer risks (working with creosote, a known carcinogen, etc...), & stress levels associated with working on any railroad. I was surprised to learn their healthcare coverage was so different (and inferior) than, say, the Teamsters. In Shelbyville, KY, teamsters get their own private medical offices to visit with zero wait. I was told they get their own chiropractic care as well as a Nurse Practitioner, with zero wait and zero copays. This would be ideal for many!

Our train here not only carries goods, textiles and containers to/from China (Maersk), it also ships large quantities of Tropicana foods/juices/syrups, corn syrup en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corn_syrup, drilling fluids and coal. And car/truck chassis, of course. You'll see the occasional convoy of used Military equipment. It's a very busy train system here. No passenger trains on this line.

Reps from CSX, ATT attempting to find a resolution to the "Poltergeist Gates" that have been malfunctioning for close to a decade. There are numerous oil spills visible along these tracks as far as the eye can see. There have been many auto accidents/fatalities on/near this corner. There is one unregistered "American Towers" cell mast to the left of these trucks and at least 4 within a one-mile area. This is typical for Jefferson County, Kentucky. Drunk driving, cancer, auto fatalities and suicide rates are skewered yet still rank among the highest in the Nation. Air, water and environmental quality due to lack of local and State Government enforcement is atrocious - this County is still dumping raw sewage into streams, rivers and brooks. There is no oversight or enforcement to local industries or quarries nor is there enforcement of laws in place to protect the environment or The People from further destruction to air and water pollution other than to place a lighted sign over freeways stating "air quality warning". Quarry roadways are not watered down as required, roadways are not swept, maintained, repaired or cleaned, no dust or erosion control measures are practiced, trucks are not correctly tarped or not tarped at all and the public's best interests are not being protected. Yet the medical profession is making a killing. And all they'll say is, "Welcome to the Ohio Valley".

I will say the response, communication and investigation from the above agencies was swift and thorough after receiving a call from a concerned resident - kudos to them!

Today I asked the general manager of the construction company hosting these trucks if I could ride with one of them to see life from their perspective. He said these trucks have only one seat in the front. I'm quite certain they're not seeing our perspective and won't any time soon.

I did not see any signs of municipal inspectors on this job site today - not to say they did not exist - I just didn't see any on this job site this morning. I did see a few driving around locally. This site may be self-inspecting. I hope they get their fences back up.

He did say they will only be running one day today (from 3am till 6pm) and again three weeks from now. They move fast!

An illustration for a magazine article about noise pollution and coping with noisy neighbours.

As I was outside singing the Star Spangled Banner 5AM this morning, it occurred to me this tree laying across my neighbor's yard is a Godsend, as he was heard recently telling the police that his greatest fear was having a vehicle crash through his bedroom wall. This tree prevents that from happening - one way. Another would provide a functional barrier on both sides for him.

The construction manager for the site bringing in this armada of concrete trucks said they would be repeating the process in three weeks beginning at 3am.

08/08/08 - stuff happened today....

This isn't a very good photo, so I wonder why it gets as many hits as it does. Is it the links in the accompanying text? Is it being referenced somewhere? I'm curious, especially as at last we are getting serious attention to the 'acoustic landscape', and how much it matters to how we live and enjoy or dislike our surroundings.

About 50 activists rallied and lined Melnea Cass Boulevard to protest a controversial plan to cut down about a quarter of the mature trees lining Melnea Cass Boulevard in Roxbury. In September after pushback from the state attorney general’s office and activists who denounced the move as environmental racism, Boston officials appeared to back down from the plan. The city’s Climate Ready Boston plan shows Melnea Cass Boulevard runs through a “heat island,” a portion of the city where temperatures are markedly higher than elsewhere in Boston and cutting down the trees would disproportionately affect the Roxbury community. Roxbury activists have voiced opposition to the plan from the beginning, citing what they said would be the loss of trees that help mitigate pollution and reduce extreme temperatures and unsafe street crossings.

Some asshole stuck his elbow in my shot!! Just kidding, that's someone from John's band. If you're not a fan of John Mayer, you should hear his live stuff before writing him off completely. He's one hell of a blues guitarist, and I changed my mind pretty quick!

October 24, 2020. Boston, MA.

It was a good day for shades! I had to miss the end of John Mayer [ :'( ] to be able to shoot these guys. They were fun though.

Powered by single Rolls Royce Engine. I hope this is not environmentally incorrect. My purpose for posting this is in response to a program directed at youth about noise pollution in and around the shipping lanes of America. Now, admittedly, noise does pollute for the few moments it lasts, but is it a reason to halt shipping in order to make the whales and dolphins more environmentally comfy. This is all we need to totally smash the future of this nation is a noise ban on shipping. Perhaps we should go back to the sailing ship, the fast clippers. That would be cool and I will be all for it if, and I say IF we can get China, Japan, Russia and all of the other major shippers to begin using sailing ships only. Oh, and I forgot, the Middle Eastern nations will have to revert to sailing ships too...if that is okay?
