MRD 1, Reading Buses 701 (1991 Optare Spectra) approaching the Forbury / Kenavon Drive depot of Reading Buses (acquired with the Reading operations of Bee Line) at an Open Day event, mid 1990s.
701 was new in Reading livery but stayed with Optare as a demonstrator for a few months, entering service with Reading Buses in February 1992, carrying 'flagship' registration MRD 1, which had been carried by the mayoral limousine until it was dispensed with in the early 1990s.
701 was later re-registered J257 NLU, sold to MASS / Bright Bus in 2008 and entered preservation in 2010.
Exact date unknown - my notes have been mislaid in house moves. Reading Buses moved out of these premises in 1998, I can only put this as mid 1990s. Information welcome.
