I'm not done social distancing with the bugs quite yet even though its getting a little nippy here in Canada.

Sunrise over Flood Bay on Lake Superior in Two Harbors, Minnesota.
Photo taken from the Flood Bay Wayside along Minn Hwy 61 (formerly US 61) after a night of driving. I was trying to get to a campground, but I had to stop and sleep. I got a couple of hours of sleep and woke up just as a little red started showing on the horizon. I put a camera on my tripod, and took pictures until my hands were numb (a November morning on Lake Superior is a bit nippy, though with almost no wind, this one wasn't bad).
Unfortunately, the camera couldn't record exactly what I saw that morning, but fortunately it was able to come close on a few of the hundreds of pics that I took.
Juvenile Starling [Sturnus vulgaris]
There are lots (and lots!) of young starlings visiting my garden feeders, at the moment. Some of their parents are still in attendance, too, so when the descend or fly over, it looks like I have my own murmuration.
They are very noisy and can be quite nippy with each other, at times. They completely ignore the smaller song birds in the garden, but the little guys can’t get a look in at the feeders for these big brutes. They are also still quite clumsy and are very funny to watch. Roar into town and declare a holiday.

"Brrr, it's really cold out here!" With the wind chill factored in this morning, it felt like -21 C or -6 F. Nippy on the nose for sure!
It was a bit nippy out yesterday and was chasing some mist (which I really didn't catch up with) but still nice to have a wander in Hillock Wood. Love the ice interwoven with the leaves in this as well as the colours. Enjoy!
DAY 94: Time passes, and Tooth Barkington the cairn terrier (aka The Tooth) is now 5 months old and looking more like a dog and less like a puppy. Sure wish he acted more like a dog and less like a bitey, nippy puppy. He'll be getting a new doggy-friend soon, a 5-year-old female, who we hope will whip him into shape. ©2022 John M. Cat Bells from the Barrow yesterday late morning! A fabulous beautiful day with amazing light, but a really nippy strong North wind.

I took a couple of panorama shots whilst up here at the top of High Cup Nick. I preferred the previous one with the basalt columns prominent on the right foreground, whereas this one is central to the head of the valley looking straight back down towards Appleby.
It was pretty nippy stood up here but the conditions were just great for a winter panorama. You can see the prominent seam of the Great Whin Sill stretching along the crests on both sides of this classic "U" shaped valley.
Captured a few days ago and it was a wee bit nippy or as we Marra's call it Fresh. ! Always nice to be out for a stroll on Old Quay at Whitehaven harbour on a blue sky day.
The snow followed by one of these now infamous "polar vortexes," bringing real temps (not wind chill) overnight to a nippy -25F/-31C, rising all the way to 0F/-18C over the day....these pleasing conditions to last at least a week.
It was a bit on the nippy side just after sunrise this morning. That gave me the perfect opportunity to try and get one of those classic shots that I've seen where you can see the steam vapor as a bird sings. This Red-Winged Blackbird obliged.
Seaham Sunrise.
It was a bit nippy this morning, definitely need a coat on. Tina had her heated body warmer on so she was happy poking around the rock pools looking for creatures. Great way to start our week's holiday.
……Went for a walk yesterday down the old railway line again that runs from Newport to Stafford, did around 5 miles and took a look at the Millennium Park at Derrington - now well established of course! Was a bit nippy to start with but warmed up by the time we got back to the car. Had to do quite a bit of extra work on this both in Lightroom and with NIK tools to eek out a bit more interest - it was a bit dull & lifeless. HSS to all, Alan:-)…..

We need some colour, it's raining again here today and rather nippy too. Taken ages ago when I had two legs to walk on!

Look at this! I've had to change my description of this type of frost ....it is not hoar frost, but what is called rime frost. There has been some moisture the past few days in the form of fog and this is what Wiki says~~~
~~~~Hard rime is a white ice that forms when the water droplets in fog freeze to the outer surfaces of objects. It is often seen on trees atop mountains and ridges in winter, when low-hanging clouds cause freezing fog. This fog freezes to the windward (wind-facing) side of tree branches, buildings, or any other solid objects, usually with high wind velocities and air temperatures between −2 and −10 °C (28 and 14 °F).[6] ~~~~~~~~
Then it snowed on top of that ... I guess the frost on the trees caught and held on to some snow too ... now it is thick on the branches and needles of the pine trees like this...so beautiful..... it's on all the trees...but, some are just more fluffy looking than others... this one was spectacular!
It's -20C this morning, so pretty nippy out there ..... but, I bundled up in parka and toque and ... well forget mitts or gloves; you can't take pictures wearing them.... so my fingers got good and cold!
I can't get onto the golf course through my neighbours yard in winter...she puts out a sign meant for me.... Do Not Enter ..on her gate to her backyard.... she is worried about a lawsuit I imagine. It does get slippery and dangerous...
But, I walked up two blocks and along a back alley as I knew I could at least see onto the course from there...and, lo and behold..I spied a large double vehicle gate that was held with chain and lock, but ajar enough that I could squeeze through. Hah! I wandered around for 39 photos worth and then, was too cold to hang out much longer.
I was hoping a coyote or deer might show up as I did see lots of animal prints.... but, cross country skiers and snowshoers also use the area for recreation...so probably they don't show up too often. Although, today, being a bit colder...I didn't notice anybody but me.....
Now, I'm gonna make me some hot chocolate !! I deserve it!
I took this photo in the city of Sydney on the west coast of Australia,
the view there is beautiful as the city looks out onto the sea.
unfortunately, even though this would be a lovely spot for beaches, there are none because as described by an Australian friend of mine "the sharks are a bit nippy!"
Despite this, it's amazing to go out on a boat in the water and look at the whole city from a different perspective!
It was envigorating to be out at the break of day when the air was nippy and the a frost bejewelled the leaves and ground.
….. Another from yesterdays morning shiver down the garden! I didn’t linger long I can tell you!! Alan:-)….
Had to run my friend early to the hospital for her checkup from wrist surgery (one plate and 5 screws) coming along good. But the sunrise was gorgeous so we stopped to get a picture. A nippy 9* too!!!
Went for a frosty walk before work into Barnes's Grove yesterday and boy was it nippy. Reminder to oneself, it's glove time! Fingers were feeling it (or not as the case may be) but managed to grab some frames of arboreal goodness. This slender sapling showing off on the top of the bank of Grimms Ditch caught my eye, but it was also surrounded by its elder siblings so a busy but lovely scene nonetheless! Still can't believe we are not seasonally in Winter yet, jolly well feels like it!
A Winters Morn’……A nippy start to the day but so nice to see some sunshine! A fairly local shot on the outskirts of Newport. Hope you are having a great week and that you are staying Covid safe. Alan:-)…….
On a very nippy March day...found this one while having a mega deleting session.
Enlarge the shot and you can see the Snowdonia Mountain Railway track running near the top of Snowdon.
1st March 2021:
A Snow Moon.
A lovely present first thing this morning. I'd seen the moon clearly last night, but wasn't going to wait until after midnight to take a photo. Luckily it was still very clear this morning. It's a bit noisy, but I couldn't get the right camera setting and it was a bit nippy outside in my dressing gown!
The answer to yesterday's photo for the day :
hcorper was correct when she suggest "the top of a plastic bottle where liquid is pushed through the x in the middle."
Dreamy rendition of sailboats at the Wilmette Harbor on a nippy Monday evening.
We had low fog, bright sun, and temperatures around zero (fahrenheit) the morning this was taken. Wonderful conditions for taking photos, albeit a bit nippy, in the Bitterroot Valley of western Montana.
I was surprised to see Mums and Dads with their young children down on Bridlington's north each, East Yorkshire for sunrise at 8am yesterday morning. One family provided brilliant subjects within this scene.
The temperature was 0C and this chap was wearing shorts and wellies.
……A lovely morning even if a little nippy - the home of Lord Lichfield, now I wonder what photo’s he would have taken on a tour of his estate on a bright Spring morning? Shugborough in Staffordshire on the edge of Cannock Chase. Alan:-)…..
View up Salesian Street from Star Street in the centre of Bethelehem in a late autumn twilight with the nights just starting to get nippy.
……Cumbria is generally not known for its coast line - the Fells gets the Lions share of visitors as a rule, we don’t go very often but its worth the effort - this was October so a bit nippy and of course nobody else about!! Alan:-) …..
