This is my Ninja 250. I love her. We go on adventures (my new job is prohibiting more recent adventures).
Also, there are a surprising amount of runners out at 7am on a Saturday morning.
(It is bothering me that my bike and I are not centered together, and that there's a slight hill in the road between the camera and the bike. I noticed that when I took it, but it was really foggy and humid, and my lens kept getting moisture on it and not focusing, so this was all I got.)

Getting my bike ready for a mini road trip. Nothing big, I don't have any time off work. Just taking it down to the Renaissance faire on Sunday and then um. heading a hundred miles out for a booty call. Since I'm new at my job, I couldn't get any real vacation time this year, so I'm trying to take my bike everywhere. I might take it to a family reunion in northern Wisconsin (depending on whether or not I can stand those fuckers after my sister's memorial), and possibly down to Georgia later (that one depends on whether someone will pick up a Saturday for me. I might do it anyway, except it'll be a 13 hour day...).
(Also I know that, technically, this is not a good photo. I should have turned my bike around, and put the camera in the light. But I didn't feel like it. Also it's crooked because my camera is on a bicycle seat.)
...If you've been around awhile, you may remember when I took my bike to Virginia to hike a bit of the Appalachian Trail. I had said then that I wanted to start putting stickers on my bike of the places I took it. I am not happy about the fact that that AT sticker is still the only one I have.

The ride back was much nicer. No cold rain.
Oh, so hey, I went on a motorcycle trip. By the way. Heh.
So, my newly-ex boyfriend has been hiking the Appalachian Trail for the last month and a half (he warned me he was going to break up with me on the phone a few weeks before I went on this trip, so I did not drive out to Virginia to get surprise-dumped in the woods. I decided to go anyway. Mostly to make sure, and say goodbye right. It was actually fine until the morning I left, so I'm glad I went.)
I took a road trip out to Virginia, then, to visit him and hike for a few days. Until about 2 days before I left, I was going back and forth on whether I wanted to take my motorcycle or my car. Motorcycle is obviously more fun and more of an adventure, but there were several reasons I didn't want to do that. The main one being that I can't sit on my bike for more than about 60-80 miles without extreme pain, so it would take longer. And I can't eat or drink while riding the bike because I'm not a dumbass and I wear a helmet (I did pass a Harley with cupholders. I laughed. But I was jealous). But after gas prices blew up again, I decided definitely motorcycle. Which was a smart decision. The entire trip, including tolls, food, and gas (but not counting some camping supplies I'll reuse) was under $200. The car would have cost over $300 in gas alone. So super awesome there. Also, I have Feelings for my bike now. I love it.
Oh. Also. I did not bring my good camera. Which is good, because it rained the whole time, and it doesn't fit in a plastic ziplock bag, and would probably have gotten wet. But it means the few pictures I do have are not that great.

The guy who drove the shuttle and brought me back to my bike said I was insane for riding a 250 cross country, and also for riding it up the dirt road to where I parked it. He's been riding 30 years and wouldn't ride any of his street bikes up it, and probably not even a dirt bike when it was muddy, like it was. I got all proud of myself.
And then I ran out of gas on my way back down the hill, and had to coast the whole thing. SUPER PRO.
I think I want to start collecting stickers from places I take my bike, and put them on the windshield. I decided this after I left, so I ordered an AT sticker online. Pretty excited.

Next day was my last hiking day. My options were hike 1 mile to a place where a shuttle could pick me up Saturday morning to get me back to my motorcycle, or hike several miles, camp, and then hike several more miles Saturday, and get picked up by the shuttle at 3:30, and then actually get going for home at like, 5pm. Given that Beth said I could crash in her guest room again, and because I was just not waking up at all that day, I decided to hike 1 mile and hang out for a day and get picked up Saturday morning. So that's what we did.
The place we spent the day was a guy's yard. haha. He's this awesome middle-aged guy whose land is on a river. On the other side of the river is the trail. He built a zipline across the river, so you can zipline over to his property. He lets hikers camp in his yard for free, and will let hikers sleep on his porch if they're shelter hopping and don't have a tent, or if it storms. He also has a fridge on the back porch that he keeps stocked with sodas for the hikers. He's a grumpy guy, but really considerate and actually nice. He's also got at least 4-5 dogs, but possibly more, and they were all really playful and ridiculous. He's also living the goddamn dream. He lives alone, has a small house on what I'm sure was cheap land, given how rural it was. He has 3 vehicles (including some sort of BMW sportscar that he took to a car show on Saturday), a motorcycle, one of those personal steam-room/sauna things, and who knows what inside the house. He's basically putting all his money towards toys, and it's amazing.

I brought my bike out of storage today. I had tried to take it out this weekend, when it hit 80F, but the battery was dead (We'd been charging it through the winter, but it was old, and by the end of it, couldn't hold a charge).
So this is my motorcycle, Diablo the Death Machine. Don't worry, I wear full protective gear all the time when the death machine is in motion.

It's 95 degrees F, but my mesh jacket is very comfortable ( as long as we never stop). This kind of getup is called 'Power Ranger' by the cool guys dressed like pirates.
This picture clearly shows that with my MCL risers the Ninja 250 gives one an upright 'standard' or UJM riding position.
Note the touring windshield in place of the tiny stock windshield.
