The sky was clear. The pollution was less because of late autumn rain. The light of moon was amazing!

Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Söderåsen is an ancient mountain horst and national park in northwestern Scania, in the municipalities of Bjuv, Klippan, Svalöv and Åstorp. At Söderåsen is Skåne's highest point: 212 m above sea level. The ridge stretches from Röstånga in the southeast to Åstorp in the northwest. Skåne's highest church village Stenestad is located in the middle of the ridge, 180 meters above sea level.

Along the steep northeast slope are canyon-like valleys such as Skäralid and Klöva halls. Broadleaf forest dominates in the valleys and along the ridge slopes. Natural pastures with heather heaths and moorlands together with marshes and bogs contribute to a varied landscape. Several natural areas on Söderåsen are protected, in addition to the national park also the nature reserves Hjorthagen Wrams Gunnarstorp, Klöva hallar, Åvarp, Åvarps fälad, Hallabäcken valley, Traneröds mosse and Nackarp. Just north of the national park is the Klåveröd hiking area. The Skåneleden hiking trail (the Ås to åsleden trail section) and the Söderåsleden follow Söderåsen all the way from Åstorp to Röstånga. On the southern slopes of Söderåsen are the two hiking areas Finnstorp and Smedjebacken. Outside Stenestad is the park facility Stenestad park.

The name was written in 1505 Sønderaas and has been given by the inhabitants of Norra and Södra Åsbo districts north of the ridge.[2]

We visited Elk Island National Park on Friday September 30th, the National day for Truth and Reconciliation. When we arrived that morning, it was raining but the colors of the leaves were even more vibrant than I have ever seen them before. The rain stopped shortly afterward, and the vibrant colors kept showing up, everywhere we stopped.

Taken during last night's aurora display at Blea Tarn in the Lake District. Light painted the fence as the posts had a similar colour to the aurora pillars.

We have had this flower in the garden for a long time but unfortunately no one knows its name. If you know, please share the name with me. This flows is still hungry and very like insects etc. Photo cropped 20x.

It's early in the summer (late in the spring, really) and this little doe already has a fair number of ticks on her. With plenty of rain, warm temperatures and lush greenery, the wildlife is healthy and so is the tick population. So sad. I'd like to erase all of these pests from this lovely deer, but the retired journalist in me won't permit it. Photo made at Greenfield in Botetourt County, Va. ©2025 John M. Hudson | jmhudson1.com
