This was my first effort with the D7ii while driving to Moab for three days of shooting. I wasn't expecting this kind of a view or drive to Moab. I decided to go this route instead of a Southern one and wasn't sure if I made the right choice. I was driving above snow level without chains and the first thing that you see coming out of the tunnel at the top of the mountain is: Watch out for patches of ice.

Luckily, there weren't any icy patches while I was driving in the middle of the day and I made it through ok. I drove through Silverthorne and saw this amazing view with a pullout. This is Dillon Reservoir and it was a nice sight to see after driving slowly through the pass. I dropped down in elevation after this stop and the desert plains took over.

From the "I taught my first time out Backyard Fine Art Class via Zoom" collection. A four camera Zoom shoot done as a one man band. Up at 5am every morning. Nine different setups, Focus shift capture (which this is) using the 105mm.f2.8 S Micor Nikkor. If Forrest Gump owned this lens he say "IF Jenny was a lens she' be this lens". Holy tack sharp glass batman!

But what a blast I had!! What a bunch to troopers the class was talk about commitment!

I can't wait to teach this class again (the up at BMNT I could do without) but watching the students get it was something I live for.

The 105mm MC S lens for the Nikon Z series is truly a "Jenny" lens. Whoa. This is for my friends Paul Van Allen and Joey Terrill. I call this One Focus Shifted Red Berry in a Field of Blueberry Bokeh.

Sooo..... From my "Flowers Don't Talk Back" series

Whilst I have been teach for Maine Media Workshops last week with my co-conspiritor Mickey Strand, I have been working on our next class Backyad Fine Rt: IT is a small World After All. A class I have been threatening to do for the past 6 years.

What makes it a much more viable class is something that cameras now have the ability to automate- focus stacking. In the Nikon world it is referred to as "Focus Shift" you can set the camera up to to doubt 300 shots or "slices" of focus.

An unforeseen benefit is you can also do multiple aperture images. Like f2.8, f8 and f 16. What I have been working on is to come up with a set of best practices and considerations to avoid image face planting.

Next round will be with the new NX Studio downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/products/564/NX_Studio..... I am hoping that this floor to ceiling upgrade will make the process even faster and easier.

I still had a few hours of daylight left after I checked into my motel and took off for a drive. I went East on Highway 128 which follows the Colorado River for awhile. This is a very scenic drive with a lot of pull outs like this one. There were quite a few places to camp right along the river if you had a tent or small trailer. This was a great way to end the day after driving in traffic all day. I only saw a few cars on the road after I got a couple miles out of town.
