During the Christmas season, “Winterlights” immerses Luxembourg in a warm and friendly atmosphere that will enchant both residents and guests of the capital. Countless lights and decorations create a fairytale atmosphere in the streets and squares and amaze young and old as they stroll through the capital.

In this urban gray environment, the Stravinsky fountain attracts because of the brilliant colors of the sculptures of Niki de Saint Phalle.
The 16 sculptures were the joint creation of the Swiss artist Jean Tinguely and his wife Niki de Saint Phalle who joined the New Realist group in 1961.
Niki de Saint Phalle was an artist renowned for her extensive use of bright primary colours.
In contrast, the machines of Tinguely are striking. Its automata are made of plates, stems and cogs metallic painted black.
The Stravinsky Fountain , or The Fountain of Automates, built in 1983, is the result of a collaboration between Jean Tinguely and Niki de Saint Phalle.
It is a public commission between the city of Paris, the Ministry of Culture and the Pompidou Center.
This monument evokes the musical work of the Russian composer of the 20th century Igor Stravinsky.
The fontaine is ornamented by sixteen works of sculpture, moving and spraying water. All of them represent the works of the great composer above-mentioned.

Who is not familiar with Nana, the world-famous, colorful women figures who happily go about dancing and jumping as pure expressions of energy. Nana is timeless. With Nana, Niki De Saint Phalle has, in any case, created an iconic image of women.

This art creation, Arbre Serpents (Serpent Tree) 1999 , is by Niki de Saint Phalle. It was displayed outdoors at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington D.C. I liked it better on a black background. "Niki de Saint Phalle was a French sculptor, painter, filmmaker, and author of colorful hand-illustrated books. Widely noted as one of the few female monumental sculptors, Saint Phalle was also known for her social commitment and work". Wikipedia

Das Rad des Schicksals
Ist ein uraltes Symbol für das Lebensrad. Was nach oben steigt stürzt unweigerlich wieder hinab.
Ich habe Jean Tinguely gebeten, das Rad des Schicksals in einem Brunnen zu konstruieren. Das Wasser würde dann aus dem Mund der Hohenpriesterin fliessen.

Her work is sooo imaginative!
Went into town this morning and on my way home noticed this in a shop window. It's a hair dressers and beauty salon!
Sadly the light wasn't in my favour, but I hope you get the idea.
