The cars head down the start/finish straight and off around Coppice and Charlie's and are seen coming back on the straight towards the Mountain during Stage 7.
The stage would be cancelled however due to the No.9 Ford Escort of Josh Payton and Jamie Vaughan rolling.

I shot this at a nightclub in Cambridge, Massachusetts, called Nightstage. Steve was playing with his wife's band. It was a great show. I remember that Gary Burton was in the audience.
I took this photo at Nightstage in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1986. Probably needless to say, but that's his wife, the composer, arranger, keyboardist and bandleader, Carla Bley, in the background.
Steve turns 78 today.
Once again the North West Stages graced Blackpool and it's promenade for the 15th running of the event, during a bitterly cold weekend (so cold in fact 2 stages were cancelled) in February.

One of the best sounding Escort's I've heard. Not because of the Vauxhall XE engine, but because of the super fast sequential box it was running.

Another Vauxhall powered Escort. They seem a popular choice, but i'm still not 100% sure i agree with Vauxhall engines in Fords.

Probably the newest and most expensive car entered was this Focus, run and piloted by Paul Bird of superbike fame. Even on his first attempt, he was super fast, but a 6 minute penalty made victory nigh on impossible.
