The second night of our Honeymoon was pretty rainy, but it stopped long enough to get some nice wet street pictures.

Rare I go down the black and white route, and do also have a colour version, but for me it seemed to just work here.

...and cranking up the ISO rating for the camera and turning the flash off. I like this one better. It looks a lot more like the scene actually did.
This image was taken as part of a more than pleasant evening I spent with three American ladies I met. They were a party of Mums whose kids had gotten old enough to grant them freedom to roam, San Francisco to Dubrovnik being their commendable choice. We met as one of their party was determined to get the same shot as I was taking and, after who knows how many bottles of fine red wine, spent a great night walking, talking, dancing, shooting and sliding our way throughout the deserted old town until the early morn.
Throughout my trip America had been a constant topic of discussion with almost everyone I met regardless of age or nationality. The War, Bush, the War, Bush, the economic crisis, Bush, the insidious (in my view) creep of religion and neo-conservatism into politics, Bush, the War and a thousand other tales and issues meant that rarely was a kind word spoken about America and, by proxy its people.
Of course being an oh so enlightened thinker as I am, I know that it is lazy and contradictory to generalise that all Americans are somehow complicit in some of the remarkable and deplorable behaviour and policy that has arisen over the past 8 years (and more). However, it is easy to let your mind slip into a position of opposition when confronted by some of that countries representative’s and their views expressed during my trip. Meeting my American friends helped ensure that I will never be able to let that way of thinking creep into my thoughts. They were funny, vibrant, intelligent, beautiful and, most importantly for a Scot, could hold their drink commendably.
