Topping out at 3.8% and featuring curves as tight as 19.3 degrees, the Claypool Loops are a formidable opponent for NF&G Mine Run H801 as they muscle 50 mtys up the mountain for Anjean.
The seasoned coalfield crew of C. Burdette and R. Rutherford pose for a quick photo at Duo, Wv before departing for Meadow Creek with 75 loads from Clearco that loaded the night before. You've really gotta know your stuff to work this territory, and these C&O boys are always up for a challenge!

The idled loadout at Anjean looks out across the mountainous landscape at the last handful of miles up at the top of the NFG. This R202 loaded the previous afternoon and tied down outside the last active loadout up here. Here’s the view midday on a humble fall Monday in West Virginia.
SJ21 NFG is a Volvo 7900e new to Western Buses in June 2021 as their number 29304.
It is one of six fully electric buses bought by Stagecoach and partly funded by SP Energy Networks for service 1 (Kilmarnock-Priestland). It is seen here in Galston showing off its SP Energy Networks inspired version of the stagecoach 2020 livery.

Here’s a view that gives a better sense of how the ventilation shaft above the road worked:
Two monster blowers that look a bit like MRI machines stood in the chamber from which the light is streaming toward me.
The two big steel flaps on either side of the door would raise up and polluted air would be sucked out of the tunnel through the round holes in the floor so the motorists below didn’t get carbon monoxide poisoning. I read somewhere that the angle of the flaps could be adjusted based on CO levels in the tunnel.
The floor and ceiling are sloped, just as they appear in this photo. They taper down to a relatively low clearance for the length of the shaft.
R202 has gotten its recrew and EC-1 to Clearco and is seen here departing Rainelle for a slow trip up the Rupert Subdivision.

A surprise whilst out 'n' about today was to find a Trident working on the 96. 17862 LX03 NFG climbs away from Dartford in Instone Road. Later in the day a second TA appeared on the route in the form of 17843 LX03 BYV. Monday 22nd October 2015. DSCN3583A.

Passing Bedrove shops is Arriva The Shires (KE53NFG 3829) working Service Pink Route 8 to Aylesbury bus station & is seen proudly wearing the new Arriva corporate livery being the first dart to recieve this new colour. New to the Shires fleet in 2003.
Working on local town service 35 to Clarence Road is this Plaxton bodied Dennis Dart (KE53NFG 3829) of Arriva The Shires & Essex seen passing through Leighton Buzzard high street approaching the bus stand. New to the Shires fleet in 2003.
Transferred from Hemel Hempstead to Southend at the end of June 2019 in exchange 6516, Sapphire liveried but having lost it branding for route 320 (Hemel Hempstead to Rickmansworth), Arriva Kent Thameside 6529 YX17 NFG is seen here on Ness Road, North Shoebury whilst working a westbound route 1 to Rayleigh Station. Wednesday 24th June 2020.
Another twist in the tale is that this vehicle has since moved to Guildford in exchange for Versa 4203 - although whether this is a permanent swap remains to be seen.
