St. Oswald's Memorial Church was built in 1927 in memory of Charles Hector Heaton Murray by his parents, then gifted to the Nelson Anglican Diocese. Following the Canterbury Earthquakes of 2010/2011 most stone structures built before 1930 throughout the NZ Anglican Diocese became unviable to insure for earthquake damage.

As a result of the November 14, 2016 Kaikoura Earthquake this landmark building suffered significant damage.

One of the last opportunities for me this year to get out for an astro shoot. This time with an enthusiastic bunch from Greymouth Photography Club and pretty much perfect conditions :)

Peter's Lookout is a must-stop spot on the road to Mount Cook, offering epic views of Aoraki (Mount Cook) and Lake Pukaki. Located about 13 km down Mt Cook Road, it's the perfect place to snap those iconic New Zealand road trip photos. Just pull over, soak in the stunning scenery, and don't forget to capture the moment! And hey, if you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of some fluffy clouds dancing around the majestic mountain.

These larger than life, naturally formed, perfectly spherical boulders were truly a sight to behold, the beauty of New Zealand never fails to amaze me. Not only was I greeted with a magnificent sunrise but I also had the good fortune to capture this starburst as a bonus.

An interesting Milford Sound weather infused sunset in New Zealand's South Island.

With a mean annual rainfall of 6,813 mm (268 in) on 182 days a year, Milford Sound is the wettest inhabited place in New Zealand and one of the wettest on earth. Rainfall can reach 250 mm (10 in) during a span of 24 hours.

So, it's understandable that if you are fortunate enough to make it to this amazing highly remote wilderness, you'll likely be greeted with such inclement weather - i loved it regardless.

A beautiful sunset captured at Mitre Peak, Milford Sound, New Zealand. Mother Nature never fails to impress.

I'd previously posted a panorama of this scene taken with an IPhone X however I found a forgotten folder of images taken with my old Canon D60. This image was created from 4 images in Microsoft Image Composite Editor (MSICE) and edited in Luminar Neo

Haphazardly driving along a section of New Zealand's South Island's mid east coast and noticed this (old) disused section of the road that nature is attempting to reclaim, and winning.

What initially looked grey and nondescript along with a strong pre-dawn breeze, this sunrise quickly fired up to pink, then magenta. Another Queenstown New Zealand sunrise putting a show on for us on this trip ...but who are we to complain, certainly not us.

This image was part of the pre-sunrise event before the sky turned deep vivid orange when the sun broke through the background ranges - if you like these, you can see other sunrise images from this same NZ series.

We hardly have this kind of photography especially intimating type, oftentimes there were way many road passers. We only attempt to act or pose when there is nobody and hopefully could get the shot we wanted.

I still remember we been waiting for this shot for a long time especially few tourists also taking advantage doing their own wefie photography, wifey wasn’t happy because I allowed them do theirs even it is our turn, cause we gonna take a while for our session.

The couple promise for a quick one, didn’t know their “quick one” was that long while taking all the best lighting and we been waiting for 15 minute while the sun was slowly faded away. Wifey worried sick and angry about it, I told her I will try my best to salvage the lighting in the post editing. At the very least we have a quiet window to have our ideal shots secured.

This piece of work already done editing back in 2019 (after a year of travel), for some reason it was buried and didn't get my attention until I browse through my NAS when picking up the remaining shots to be edited further. Thank god while glanced through and manage to spot it, looks like I really need to pay attention and allocate time for these orphanage photos.

On what was a cold morning, a fabulous multifacited sunrise in Queenstown developed which started out more to the north of this image in a deep blazing orange (see "sky blaze" image in the NZ group) quickly changed into this rich pink / magenta coloured sunrise looking back more easterly over Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkable mountains.

Image was taken on a trail off Glenorchy Road, Queenstown, New Zealand. (NB: In case you are wondering, these colours are actual - No HDR or blown out mass post processing either).

In what was a cold morning, a hint of snow around and almost did not get out of bed to greet this lovely multifacted sunrise light show over Queenstown's Lake Wakatipu with the receding snow lines on the Remarkables mountain range.

Soon after this image was taken, the sky rapidly turned from this flamed orange to a pink / magenta sky as can be seen in the same NZ group image titled "sky show'.

I found a forgotten folder of images taken with my old Canon D60 in January 2020. This image was created from 5 images in Microsoft Image Composite Editor (MSICE) and edited in Luminar Neo.

A stictch of 17 shots to bring this shot into view.

It was a pretty steep hike for our standards and a full pack of gear and a big ass tripod didnt make the journey any easier.

If you're hiking up Sealy Tarns, hike early... We did out at 3Pm in spring and there are lots of strong gusts of winds

That was how a memory formed despite being a candid or behind-the-scene shot, sometimes things just happen by chance, not by effort (loved this shot personally). That was the exact moment when wifey held my secondary camera while I was setting up the tripod and framing the ideal composition for our subsequent shots. Wasn't aware she photographed it until when I have it back and checked some camera settings on LCD and got ourselves in a good position and ready for the proper wefie photography session.

Heading back Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand

Besides the signature anniversary shot(s), wanted to do this in my photography work journey for quite sometime. It may seem very simple and easy, undoubtedly everything becomes easy when you have pair of hands to spare. This shot marked the last long-distance road trip where we headed back to Christchurch after days of driving and hotels hoping. There is a saying, 計畫永遠趕不上變化, what you anticipated doesn’t necessarily mean comes into your way, expect the unexpected, that’s when you have to be creative, some shot is something we cannot ask for. (可遇不可求)

This was the shot I wanted to do before we decided to visit the South Island of New Zealand. What I dreamt about was a sunny day, thanks to the weather drama. Many times we passed by the good condition of having photo shooting, always ended up with bad weather. I am not a risk-taker either, often play by the rule type of person, resulting only allowing shooting in the safest condition. Traffic was not as heavy as expected but still lost the time when positioning the setup in the middle of the road. While everything was ready, then seeing vehicle coming through from far and we move back to the road shoulder. Repeatedly 5-6 times only managed to secure the shot, especially the sun setting was pretty quick.

Even some road passers had an impression where our vehicle broke down and needed a lift, we told them we were safe and sound, apparently we just wanted to do our photography when sky was getting darker, so we wanted to do it as quickly as possible. When situation does not flow in our favor, I will try to cross “that” line, and secure what is needed to. Just like what they said, desperate time desperate measure. Though I couldn’t get my ideal and dream shot, but an early evening shot was still not bad after all. I am glad I made it and didn’t give up easily, when coming to memory-making, sometimes a little push is all what we needed.

P/S: This was supposingly the first photo to be edited after the NZ trip, end up buried in my NAS due to my forgetfulness. Taking this opportunity to confess also celebrating our 17th anniversary of being together officially. Thanks for your tolerance and companionship all this while, and for joining my quest doing crazy stuff every year.

Cardrona Historic Site, South Island, New Zealand

This often came something off screens, out of millions chance somehow wifey manages to capture this while I was getting prepared before the actual shot. Thanks for the moment of truth when I have a chance to look at how my expression.

I remembered a few occasions those somewhat close to me once asked, “Does that person offended you?” I said nope and why? They responded, “Ohhh, so that’s how you look when staring at people without consciousness.”

I get this a lot, especially from wifey (complaining about my unfriendly face) when I was in screen saver mode or absence-minded without noticing I was picking a target to look at. My expressionless could mislead other people to think differently but the bottom line is I am harmless, just the way it is when I’m not smiling.

P/S: This could be the only time I have accidentally looking at the camera 😂

Just because putting timepiece on the wrists doesn't mean having the ability to lay a finger on it, we only can experience the flow of time, a virtual perception of the past and the future based on all our experiences. A reputable physicist once mentioned, time is an illusion.

即使把计时器放在手腕上并不意味着有能力触碰它,我们只能体验时间的流动,一种基于我们所有经验的对过去和未来的虚拟感知。一位著名的物理学家曾经描述过,时间是一种幻觉。

We arrived just on nightfall into Christchurch International Airport on January 11th 2020 and just in time for a stunning sunset.

Our plan was to head west to the mountains then south to Dunedin finishing our two weeks back in Christchurch.

Almost to the entrance of the Christchurch Botanical Gardens, we were greeted by the fresh tones of Spring... everything was in Saturation Mode- HIGH!!

Even the skies looks fake *_*
