Friday saw me trying to muster the courage to go out on my bike between those nasty squally showers that we had ( I know that I should not complain about some heavy rain and light winds while parts of America are being truly battered by the hurricane season). There was a dry patch and so out I went.
The plan was up towards Pontypridd ( a town about 8 miles North of Cardiff) then drop back down and get to Cowbridge an overall distance of about 35 miles. I had only gone a couple of miles when, after having changed down a gear to turn right on an uphill bend I heard the most awful crunching noise. On looking down I saw the chain wrapped around the front cogs. Thankfully I was only 2 miles from home and most of that downhill too.
Plans changed and down I went to the local bike shop, the advice was new teeth and chain. 24 hours later I was back out for a shortened version of the planned route the previous day, but not before I had taken advantage of photo opportunity that presented itself, the whole mechanism will never be this clean again!
It's an example of what's needed to drive the bike forward from the power generated by the cyclists legs - I never was much good at physics in school!
An update of sorts - I should have called this double-trouble!
We have on the left his cheeky smirk... (which, apparently he inherits from his Dad), and on the right are his two new teeth, and his famous 'smile'.
(I should add that it was his Mum that took these photos, I just worked with them a little... and I haven't got it quite right yet - I am not very accustomed to processing portraits)
This image looks even better here
...he used to be this sweet...
week 29
It is finally Fall here- the leaves are coloring the yard and it is hat season! Thank you to Amanda for making these hats especially for Anders : ) We love them! This week you had a couple of rough nights and when I went in to get you, your tongue kept rolling over the new teeth that sprouted during the night.
When Sinterklaas comes to Holland on his steamship from Spain in November, he brings along his cheeky helpers which then give out candies to the children.
she was so excited to tell me all about how she pulled it out at school my daughter told me. she came running over and told me all about how her friend at school told her to "twist it round and it'll come right out!"..."so I did Gangie!" she told me all excited to show me the hole where her tooth used to be...then of course she had to get the tooth out of mummy's car and show that to me all the while telling me about the tooth fairy and how she will have to put it under her pillow for money. The other one should be coming out any day now as well.
Amina's new permanent teeth didn't quite have the strength to shove the baby teeth out of the way (the stubborn little things) so the dentist whipped 'em out instead :)
There they are peeking out the bottom Gabriel's first couple of teeth that are finally coming in ::)) They are so adorable.
I had a visitor when I got home from work today!
Olivia was having a drink in her chair, and when she got hold of her Fifi doll she was entirely happy to show off those new teeth for the camera. :)
Though my brother (later a rabid Cubs fan) never liked that he'd been dressed in a White Sox for this studio portrait, it remains a family favorite.
His smile makes me smile. My friend's son Ian. Seen here a year ago. He's been smiling practically since birth.
This is my nephew Nathan. I had a slightly different image in mind. One where the rubber bands and the hole in the ground would make more sense. I may try the idea later with another model.
But my nephew has an independent mind. I asked for one thing, and he gave 49 other poses. This one was by far the cutest.

======================
I used 2 flashes on a dual ETTL cord. One old Metz in a soft box on the left. One 580EX with omnibounce on the right. Taken outside on a cloudy, dark day (it started raining after we stopped).
Very rare: I did no color correction whatsoever. The only treatment: I sharpened the RAW file one step.

2 years in the making (actually, maybe 2 and half years), my new teeth are finally in and cemented.
For the backstory, look here.
Essentially, I've been at the dentist regularly getting a complete rework of all of my teeth as well as the two teeth in front (see note) that were destroyed.
The front tooth on the left is an implant while the one next to it is a crown.
I find it funny that my implant is titanium and uses a hex screw head and is torqued to 20 lbs. I felt like they were working on a bike when I heard these things.
Though I guess it's all full circle.
she rarely sucks her thumb, but i think that we are going to have some new teeth in our family soon...

don't you love the snot dripping down her face? this is my niece and my favorite child ever. you'll see older pictures of her further down in my photo stream. back then, she couldn't walk, and i must say it was a lot easier to take pictures of her then. this day she was running figure eights all around the field we were in.
Allison got some brand new perfect teeth. For the first time in about a month she was able to have a burger. So we headed to Carl's Jr. (this photo) followed by In N' Out and then Wendy's. It's a wonder that we aren't huge fattys. Oh... wait... I kinda am... dammit!
after over four hours of periodontic care this last fortnight i now have teeth that are worth smiling about.
