Alchemi Labs manufactures some great sun hats (www.amazon.com/Alchemi-Labs-River-Hat-Ivory/dp/B01J4M7CT6)
Hosted by TransLink and South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority, the Trans-Expo 2010 is an annual event aimed at bringing transit professionals together across Canada. This year the gathering is held at the Vancouver Convention Centre on November 16, 2010. Nearly 100 exhibitors set up booths at West Exhibit Hall C to showcase their mostly environmental-friendly products.
Quite a good number of newer and yet everyday technologies are also incorporated into the public transit system, many with sustainability features. Diesel-Electric hybrid engine, LED lighting, solar-powered devices, GPS, Wi-Fi, H.264 video codec etc. Many of these technologies are not alien to the average consumer.
So much for the new stuff, but objects that have interesting heritage values are not forgotten either. The Transit Museum Society had an on-site exhibit with a few antique transit buses on display. These are the ones that your parents or grandparents used to ride. In fact, BC has been building interurban buses over 100 years ago. In 1905, the BC Electric Railway shop in New Westminster built Car 1207 for opening of the new Steveston line by way of the Arbutus Corridor connecting Vancouver and Richmond. Many long-time residents among those communities still remember the streetcar line and some have longed for its return.

The flat canvas, the resolution of perspective, abstraction and then digital art...
I remember reading art theory about artists wrestling with the problem of a flat canvas, and how best to represent reality, conceptually or literally. The creative problems artists try to resolve today are more photographic, synthetic or cinematic. Similarly, Facebook and similar "live" web applications allow all users to be artists and wrestle with the problem of a flat canvas and a flat personality, a la the Romantic view of an artist. Indeed the fascination with fame, or recognition via technological devices, doesn't only reveal the demise of the ruling classes (in conventional forms) it also brings with it the difficulties that artists have always faced; anonymity and isolation. Indeed,we all have to say "who the f*ck are you?" And, consequently, "who am I?"
The idea behind Western, societal functioning is that women and femininity heal its problems, while men and masculinity "do" and "does". Feminism is inoperable in Western society, because the feminine is valueless until healing or nurturing is required, and then it takes second place to support objectivity and pragmatism. However, this suppression of the value of women and feminity leads to a state of "female worship", where men overly respect women in situations that are deemed "feminine". This state is an attempt to counter the devaluing of women and femininity. The word "goddess" frequently applied to attractive women and the representations of women in the media can exhault women to the status of a deity or quaisi-deity. The arts are "female-friendly" and "femininity-friendly", calling on "feminine" attributes such as intuition, healing, emotion, common-sense and beauty. On a more societal scale, the West cries out for a more holistic approach to both intellectual and practical issues, balancing subjectivity with objectivity, reason with intuition, doing with reflection and compassion with competition. Indeed, both sexes are capable of the above, to varying degrees, therefore women are not the answer to the problems of the West, but a greater respect of femininity. This, of course, would lead to a greater respect for women, rather than political correctness that props up the status quo and deflects the publics attention from the real issues that we face.

The new Invista track & field project is heading into the final stages of completion.
The field lights require a full 100 hours of 'burn' before the contractor is satisfied that they are fully operational.
This was shot shortly after they were turned on this morning at 5:30 am.
What a beautiful facility; and especially in the dark with these very powerful and all encompassing lights on.
