This is a pretty poor picture as it was taken on my iphone whilst trying not to fall over, however I have chosen to add it to my stream as it highlights the unprecedented conditions our drivers have faced throughout the day.
Despite roads, shopping centres and all but three schools in warrington closing, WBT chose to battle on, albeit with severe delays and route changes.
This picture shows Metrorider 120passing Sankey Station, with another 29 just behind it. The road was lethal, meaning the buses had to crawl past at a snail's pace.
Shortly after this picture was taken, the following message appeared on the operator's website-
"NEWSFLASH - 15:00hrs TUESDAY 5th JANUARY
Due to the continuing deterioration of the current weather conditions, it is not expected that we will be able to operate a cohesive bus service beyond 15:00hrs today. All buses will be curtailed after this time.
We had hoped that a moderation in the weather this afternoon would have enabled us to continue our operations, but this has not occurred. We apologise for this decision, which was not made lightly, but it is in the interests of safety, to you, our passengers. We thank you for your understanding."
In my opinion the right decision was made, it would have been unsafe to expect drivers to go out in the dark when the snow is still coming down fast, although my sympathies go out to those stranded in the station for the night...

The USS-Missouri (BB-63), known as the Mighty Mo or Big Mo, is a United States Navy Iowa-class battleship. Ordered in 1940 and commissioned in 1944, it was the last battleship built by the United States. In the Pacific Theater, she fought in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, before serving as the site of the surrender of the Empire of Japan to end World War II. She fought in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953, before being decommissioned in 1955. Reactivated and modernized in 1984 as part of the 600-ship Navy plan, the Missouri provided fire support during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Finally decommissioned in 1992, she remained on the Naval Register until her name was struck in 1995. In 1998, she became a museum ship moored at Foxtrot 5 Pier on Ford Island in Pearl Harbor.

Drafted by the Rangers in 2003, Littleton quickly rose through the minors and made the majors last year, sporting a 1.73 major league ERA. The sidearmer has been dominant in AAA so far this year and should be a mainstay in the Rangers bullpen for years to come.

ONCE UPON A TIME, A LONG, LONG TIME AGO, When NYC had a mayor named Rudy, adults could smoke in bars. But, Lo and Behold, along came the mayor who made it his personal project to ban smoking in the "big apple." He seemed to have a thing for smokers and began banning them everywhere. But that was long, long ago. Since then, many bars have gone out of business. Since then, NYC has lost millions of tourist dollars. Some will crunch the numbers to show otherwise, but numbers are easy to crunch, customers are hard to keep once they leave a favorite place.
A lot of smokers in NYC are tired of being pushed around, tired of having their civil rights denied, so somebody came up an idea, me: Why not have bars FOR SMOKERS and bars for NON-SMOKERS.
Now, you see, that was pretty easy to figure out. It only took me a NEW YORK MINUTE to figure this out...
75th Anniversary of Associated Motorways – Saturday & Sunday 24/25th May 2009
The weekend’s festivities which have been organised between Kelvin Amos & Ian Lloyd-Owen, include a Road Run from Bristol Bus Station to Aust Services, departing at 9.48am on Saturday 23rd May 2009 from Bristol Bus & Coach Station, which I am very proud to be part off with my lovely Plaxton 3500 bodied Leyland Tiger (FRU675Y).
The festivities run right through Saturday and in to Sunday, where there is a Coach Rally to be held at the infamous site which once was the home of Black & White Motorways, the one and only St Margaret’s Coach Station in Cheltenham. This location is synonymous with coaching through the ages, and at one point during its heyday, used to have 8 or so mass departures during the day, with the very famous 15.00 departure, which on a Summer Saturday could have as many as 300 coaches leaving Cheltenham at once to various locations across the country. The M5 and motorway services put paid to Cheltenham, but as Mike Walker told me once, you may not have got many pics when I was a lad, but the memories are still there.
Well done to Kelvin, Ian and all the others involved with what promises to be a cracking weekend for us Coach Enthusiasts, and here is to this being an annual occurrence!

This spring, students at Shades Mountain Elementary School are spending more time outside, observing insects, watering plants or writing in notebooks from one of three new outdoor classrooms along the newly opened Blue Ridge Nature Trail.
About 60 parents and their children built the trail over the past year and a half, with help from several community groups, city workers and about $17,000 in funding from state and local sources, said Birgit Kibelka, a Shades Mountain mom and landscape architect who has helped spearhead the effort.
On Friday, students, teachers, parents and community members will celebrate completion of the trail with a 1 p.m. ribbon-cutting event. The public is invited.
The Blue Ridge trail sits on 2.8 wooded acres along Blue Ridge Boulevard near the school. The city of Hoover bought the land from the school system for $175,000 in 2007 and, a year later, used federal money to build a community playground and picnic pavilion.
When construction of the playground wiped out much of an existing walking trail, members of the Shades Mountain Elementary landscaping committee decided to rebuild it.
They have forged a new log-lined path through the site that links three outdoor classrooms: a "rock" classroom encircled by large, flat-top boulders; a "woodland" classroom with arced rows of wooden benches, one boy's Eagle Scout project; and a "wildflower" classroom dotted with treestump seats. The latter is so named not because it is surrounded by wildflowers, but because it is a sunny spot where volunteers hope wildflowers soon will flourish, Kibelka said. Invasive privet has been removed from the site and replaced with small colored flags marking recent plantings of wax myrtle, shumard oak, woodland phlox and other flora.
In tandem with its new outdoor amenity, Shades Mountain Elementary has started a Nature Trail Club for third-graders. The club's 18 members meet weekly for an hour after school to explore and maintain the trail.
Jennifer Collins, a second- grade teacher who sponsors the club, said it offers kids abundant learning opportunities and a chance for community service. Hours spent working on the trail can be applied toward community-service ribbons students can earn. Collins said she hopes the trail will help inspire in students an appreciation for local vegetation and a passion for conservation. "I spent a lot of time outdoors as a child, and I just don't think a lot of children have that opportunity as much," she said.
Shades Mountain teachers have begun making use of the outdoor classrooms in recent weeks, and a committee of educators is examining ways to incorporate nature trail activities into the state course of study for each grade level, Collins said. "We're trying to coordinate whatever opportunities are available."

Diaz spent parts of the last 3 seasons playing for the Mets and was traded to the Rangers before the 07 season, where he competed in spring training to be a backup infielder. Diaz made his Ranger debut on May 01 to replace the injures Frank Catalanotto.
