so I will photograph 4 babies these next few days born on 9-9-09... seems to be a popular day to have a baby (on purpose)!!
This pup could only have been a few hours old. When it turned over you could still see its umbilical cord and there's also blood around its face. A real contrast to the previous image I have uploaded that shows a pup that's about 6 weeks old and completely independent.
looking thru old files and came across this image. Been working the past few weeks updating my newborn gallery on my website and absolutely love when they smile this big... www.kelleyryden.com
Also our last newborn workshop of the year is up and ready to view on my blog with over 40+ images from this class! www.kelleyryden.com/babyblog
What I like about this photo (again, it is not the fence wire, as I've explained under my first photo in this series) is the way you can see that the newborn calf is still wobbly on its legs. It has now moved away from its mother, only to turn back and find out where the 'milk bar' is!
Here is a behind the scenes of my set up for newborns...lots of natural light, haha. Newborns are not my usual, but it is amazing capturing new life. Wish me luck!
A just-hatched mantis (Stagmomantis limbata) in my garden, shot at 5X. Within a couple of hours, its colors will become a more muted green or tan and its eyes will lighten to match the body. Its head shape will also change - it will lose the temporary forehead bump, which I presume is used to help them shove their way free of the egg capsule.
our youngest model at class at just 6 days old and also the longest baby boy I have posed at 23 inches!!

I took this photo half an hour after this seal pup was born. The grey seals come to the East Lincolnshire coast at Donna Nook to have their pups each year. As of today 165 had been born, many more seals were expecting to give birth in the next few days. It was a wonderful sight.

It's so wonderful getting to photograph newborns. And to study and capture all those cute little features and gestures
This is my neighbour one year ago. Today I photographed another beautiful prince, who were really calm and gave me all the photos I wanted. Will show his photos during summer ツ
And on my way home, I got another newborn boy assignment in some days. I really look forward to meeting him as well!

Having felt I didn't make the most of photographing my most photogenic first three grandchildren I wanted to make amends when No.4 arrived recently. We were blessed with the cutest little baby, big eyes, and a huge mop of spikey dark hair, and a brilliant little personality. But when she wasn't sleeping, or feeding or being changed,........ she was sleeping again! And she grew up so fast, that now she is already no longer a tiny newborn.
I had my chances, but didn't make the most of them, and so often the phone camera was best for capturing the first little smiles and giggles, rather than the DSLR. I had wanted to do something different but as so often is the case, lighting was the issue.
I took this, looking down from our galleried landing into the hallway (which is not where they normally slept). The results with DSLR were disappointing, due to the lack of light, but as is so often the case, the phone worked pretty well. (How does a Samsung phone a few millimetres thick manage that, compared to a brick of a Nikon D750?)
Anyhow, here was my attempt at something 'different', baby and parents. Grandchild No.5 is due in a few months. Perhaps I will get things right next time.
I find it interesting the way nature seems to unfurl itself into the warmer temperatures of Spring and set against the reflections of emerging foliage on a pond, I liked the layered effect of the background colors for these newborn maple leaves!

When I was looking at this newborn dragonfly through the view finder it looked like it was smiling. I did not notice the teeth until I post processed it.
Tech Specs: Canon 90D (F11, 1/125, ISO 200) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (set to 2x) + a diffused MT-26EX-RT, E-TTL metering, -2/3 FEC. This is a single frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Denoise AI and Clarity in that order. Shutter and ISO set to expose the sky in the background.

I've had quite a few flickr mails asking for my setup so instead of sending this out to all of them, i'll just post it here. As you can see, it's pretty much the same as everyone else's. Don't judge my handwriting skills. LOL
Hope this helps!! :)
A couple of hours old, Mom has licked her down, placed her to go off and clean up. She'll be back don't worry!
I had the privilege of being asked by a friend to take a couple of photos of her with her newborn baby. She wanted me to "do something different".
We had twins today! This is the third set of twins this season. One is a boy and one is a girl. What's the twin combination where they are most likely sterile? 2 boys, 2 girls, one of each? ⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is a picture of my husband moving one of the twins back to his momma. The twins were born this morning, so we went out to check on them again this afternoon. One was doing well and up and about, but this little guy looked like he hadn't stood up yet. He did finally stand and him and his sister got some love from mom. We will check on them again later. 💕 (Seriously, how cute is he!!!?) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Any name suggestions for the red twins? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
