The first brewery in Texas. Located in La Grange, Texas
Here's more info:
No one should ever underestimate the impact that German immigrants have had on Texas. German settlers were in Texas from the beginning of the Colonial period, but at the end of the Mexican War large numbers of Germans and others immigrated to Texas because of the mild climate and cheap land.
Map Link
One such German immigrant was Heinrich Kreische. He arrived in Fayette County in 1849 and purchased 172 acres on a bluff overlooking the Colorado River above La Grange. This land included the land where the Dawson/Meir tomb is located. He honored those who gave their life for Texas by maintaining the tomb his whole life.

Mr. Kreische was a master stone mason and over a period time built a three story stone home on the bluff. He was also involved in the construction of many stone structures in Fayette County. I've noticed in my travels that German stone masons have been involved in almost every major stone building in Texas in the 19th century, from the Capitol Building in Austin to the Fort in Fort Davis, Texas.
Heinrich Kreische
In 1860 Mr. Kreische began building one of the first breweries in Texas. He cleverly built it in a ravine below his house that was feed water from a spring that he used in the production of beer. By the middle of the Civil War the brewery was producing beer in a nine step brewing process with an ingenious gravity feed water system. When a new batch of beer was ready a large banner was raised that said "Frisch Auf" (Freshen Up). This was an invitation to the community to come to the bluff and enjoy a picnic, dancing, games and a stein or two or three of "Kreische's Bluff Beer"!
In 1882 Heinrich Kreische, German immigrant, master stone mason, and brew master, was killed in a wagon accident.

A new batch (uploaded today) of recent Thailand pics can now be seen on my website - bugs-alive.blogspot.com
This is another very rare species found in Thailand only in the Doi Suthep area. A beautiful skipper.
All my insect pics are single, handheld shots of live insects in wild situations.
This is Anuradha's mum. She had ten chickens including Anuradha.
I was on my way to check on Anuradha in the evening to make that he is alright as he was being introduced back to where I rescued him. Half way, I came across Anuradha's mum with a new batch of ten chickens approaching me. She then had all ten of them underneath.

All my insect pics are one shot, hand-held macros of live insects in the wild.
Since my last visit with the new batch of Green Heron Chicks, they have learned to fly....except this little one. Must have been the last one to hatch, he did manage to jump and flap his wings enough to get onto a low tree branch and then hopped his way up to safety and waited for a parent to show up with some food!
Ottawa River finally receded enough to expose the flat shores of Remic Rapids so that John Ceprano could start a new batch of balancing rock sculptures. His creations are adding a peaceful touch to the sunset canvas of the river shore.
This is the start of a new batch of Lake Grasmere images with the same misty weather theme taken just before the sunrise!
These were very popular so time for a new batch

These 3 fawns put on a good show around the trough. Such a delight to watch.
Shoulda cranked up the speed a bit tho....
One of our blessings is to enjoy a new batch of these little darlings each summer.
They are so precious.
Enjoy a wonderful weekend!
The last of my Grundy Lake early dawn misty mornings. Hopefully I will get a new batch in August with a few new points of view.
There's a new batch of baby blue jays in the yard.

Fomatone 131 batch 079648-02,
two tray development:
1st SE5 Lith (A+B+D+water) 50+50+50+1000ml 2:45 mins.
2nd Pyrocatechol 12ml + Lith B 8ml + NH4Cl 20% 5ml + water 800ml 3 mins.
The current batches show the desired results in the lith printing process, but it should be noted that the snowball problem still persists with long development times (over 6–8 minutes). I described the strategy for avoiding undesirable structures some time ago (Dec. 2023).
For easier reference, I have added the instructions for the three lith developer variants to my website.

The 12 Bank Street building in the foreground and the Horden Cherry Lee designed Newfoundland residential tower in the background.
For years it seemed like the development of Canary Wharf had stood still, presumably a result of the 2008 banking crisis. When I visited the area a couple of years ago it was apparent that construction had resumed and as a result there's now a new batch of shiny new buildings to photograph.
As a result I've chosen Canary Wharf as the start point for the upcoming London Flickr Group Photowalk on Sunday 8th, May. More info here if that's sound like it would be something you're intersted in taking part in : www.flickr.com/groups/londonflickrgroup/discuss/721577219...

From the Dezeen website, "Architecture studio Horden Cherry Lee has designed the Newfoundland residential skyscraper with a diamond-shaped exoskeleton in London's Canary Wharf district.
Horden Cherry Lee designed the 225-metre tall skyscraper to take advantage of its prominent location on the banks of the river Thames and at the end of Middle Dock, directly opposite the main entrance to the Foster + Partners-designed Canary Wharf Underground station." Another Omega Lith Print on Fomatone 131 batch 079648.
A higher dosage of Lith D requires a stronger overexposure, which leads to a more intense color. If the deep shadows are not to tip over into green, only bathe briefly in Omega.
SE5 Lith A+B+D+Water 40+40+90+1200 4 minutes and only 30 seconds in Omega 1+100 to prevent greenish shadows.

I have been hanging out in the Cloud lakes sim with the new bladerunner theme and so in awe of this creators talent. What I find so amazing is the creator's ability to produce time after time incredible laid out builds. The materials used in some of the buildings will be the subject for a new batch of images as soon as I can work out a great outfit.
This morning my wife looked on her Facebbok page and they had selected a picture posted 2 years ago. Tiny eggs starting to hatch on our washing line.
Two hours later she was hanging out some washing........and what did she find!!!!!! a new batch of eggs.
The gain in knowledge is usually greater with difficult negatives. That's why I chose an older, very high-contrast negative (Efke R25) to test the limits of the new Fomatone batch.
So that even less experienced lithprinters can understand the problem with high-contrast negatives with extremely high light density, I will explain it again here.
To get a higher level of colour, the image has to be heavily overexposed. Strong overexposure requires a higher dilution of the lith developer in order to prevent a too fast blackening of shadows and midtones. However, at dilutions of 1+20 or higher, the developer is less stable, making reproducible results difficult. A higher dosage of restrainers such as potassium bromide or Lith D is therefore more sensible than a higher dilution.
Test SE5 Lith (1+20)
1st attempt of course already with overexposure
A+B+D+Water 20+20+20+800ml 10 minutes - no colour, no lith effect
2nd attempt A+B+D+Water 20+20+35+800ml plus 60% more overexposure (=45 seconds) 11 minutes – pale yellowish highlights, but snowball effect.
Back to tried and tested technology with a stronger lith developer and a second developer for more colour. Nothing new, just the familiar second bath with pyrocatechol.
Exposure time again extended to 80 secs.
1st tray SE5 Lith A+B+D+water 35+35+35+800ml 5:15 mins
2nd tray 600ml water + Pyrocatechol 40ml + Lith B 30ml + Ammonium chloride 20% 10ml 4 mins
April 1st...."C" Day, Conrail day, who'd ever thought after all these years we would wish having droves of matched C30-7A's and boring SD40-2's back on every train. The winter of 1994 saw the arrival of a new batch of GE C40-8W in a new scheme with Conrail's new slogan Conrail Quality". Here train TV-10B bound for Boston, passes the interchange G&U interchange at North Grafton, MA with a mile long train of trailers led by new GE 6228, and 3 "ordinary" SD40-2's at a brisk 50 mph. Good times, lots of trains and pride. January 5, 1994.
After one year working on last summer pictures, I finally have a new batch of (hopefully worth posting !) shots !
I'm sorry for my lack of post lately but circumstances (and lack of content) made me step a bit back from Flickr. Anyway,
This is - according to me - the most stunning waterfall in Plitvice National Park. The "big waterfall", Veliki Slap might be tall but not as majestic as this one. So if you are planning to hike & shoot in Plitivce, go straight to enter 2 (6.30am or earlier) and run to this waterfall. Ths morning light is superb and you will fully enjoy the magic of the place without the crowd.
I hope you'll like the shot ! this is a hand held panorama of 4 vertical shots stiched with Lightroom. Feel free to comment, like and share !

As the sun rises in the early morning the river at Looe in south-east Cornwall is covered in a gently swirling mist. As well as being a popular holiday resort Looe also retains an important fishing industry, with a large fish market situated on the east bank of the river.
Having just returned from a couple of weeks in Cornwall, this is the first of a new batch of pictures from my favourite county.
Since Foma is coating with a new batch of gelatin, the outcome of lith developing is completely different.
less colorful
develops much too fast with the usual amount of overexposure
reducing exposure causes more grain and pale yellow lights
This one was exposed as long as usual, but with a different setting of the developer.
SE5 Lith: 80ml A + 60ml B + 10ml D + 1000ml water - 10 minutes
Just got back from a 2 week long solo road trip to Colorado and Wyoming trying to chase fall colors. Shot with old friends and new ones along the way.
Also got a new batch of images at eddielluisma.com so pls do check them out.
Today was a Souper day - I had run out so a new batch was needed! I make a batch of 4 portions to have for my Tea each day, this goes down well with toasted Spelt bread - something I started when I was diagnosed ‘Pre-diabetic’ - now reversed I hasten to add but the healthy diet carries on.
366- I’ve decided to do this to force me to pick up a camera other than when we are away on our travels (they will be posted as normal) - I will be interested to see what transpires, they will be varied I’m sure so we’ll see where inspiration takes me over the course of the year, hopefully at the end of it I will be a better photographer. Feel free to critique as you see fit, but please don’t feel obliged, I anticipate they will not be to all tastes. Have a great year and if you also have embarked on a 365 project then good luck in seeing it through, Alan:-)

Following a heavy shower, Stagecoach in Cumbria ADL Enviro 400 MMC 10556 - SN16 ONZ calls at Grasmere on route 555 to Keswick via Central Lakes. Soon the bus will have moved on too as a brand new batch of E400 MMCs enter service.
A new batch of young squirrels about at the moment. This one is trying to get up pole to the bird feeders and can't quite figure how to get beyond the cone. It won't take him long though.
Photo 13/31 for October picture a day.
We went out for a hike again a few weeks ago, decided to visit an area we haven't been before, a recreation area called Schoonhoven near Hollandscheveld.
This area has a lot to offer, a small lake for swimming, some beaches and a nice piece of forest with a few nice hiking trails.
The weather was a mixed bag of some sun and a clouds but with a reasonable nice temperature we did enjoy the hike. We will be visiting this area again.
Took as we basically always do one of our Canon Eos 3 cameras with us. Decided to load it with some Ilford XP2 Super 400 for a change
Developing was done with our Cinestillfilm Cs41 kit at 39c and 4 minutes after some struggles with the spool. Did have some issues loading the film. So I ended up with a film with some scratches and spots, but still do like the results
This was the ninth film with the new batch of developer mixed on September 9 2020
Curious if we can reach over 25 films again and 10 months with this new batch.
The previous developer batch was used to develop 28 films (135-36 format) over an period of 10 months without any problems.
The Cinestill CS41 does stay in good working condition if kept cool, dark and oxygen free.
After a couple of days of off and on snow (unusual for May) I went out to check on the goslings. The ones I already posted photos of are all still accounted for and growing fast. There was also a brand new batch of three (one of which is pictured here), recently hatched and apparently handling the cold morning just fine. You can still see a bit of snow there in the grass. Since these new Streetdecks were introduced into service some have ventured onto other Bradford services. The new livery has evoked memories of the former corporation livery, in the First corporate style. Bradford is also introducing a new low emissions zone for the city.
The new batch of twenty-eight new Streetdecks fit the bill, for the new LEZ within the city of Bradford. Here 35660 is seen working the Sunday hourly service to Eldwick terminus, a mile or so from the old 'Dick Hudson's' Pub. This used to be an old terminus point for the 68 service from Bradford, many years ago. The driver was very pleasant and gives a wave as he departs the Edlwick terminus for Bradford.
CN received a large batch of ex-CREX units last summer which were numbered in the 3913-3987 series. CN has now received a second batch of ex-CREX units. These are numbered in the 2750-2796 series and have only entered service during the past few weeks. Here CN 2766 (ex-CREX 1316) leads CN 120 not too long after it departed Taschereau Yard. Trailing is CN 3016 & CN 3883.
Barb and I are doing a photowalk today....and mid-sentence she stops...

Where an old, vintage clothing store once stood....there it was...
Madeleine Patisserie
This winsome, almost-overly-cozy bakery seemingly popped up out of nowhere. Comfy couches, an old wooden kitchen table, and the entire family running around behind the counter made it feel less like an eatery and more like your grandmother's house.
And I'm serious...the entire family. You could see Mom doing book work on a computer in the back, the Dad bringing out a new batch, a 10 year old struggling to get her hands on the register above her......there was even a pre-pubescent boy who sputtered our order out to us from behind his braces. Ten types of precious.
This hallmark moment, though, was overshadowed by the treats.
Granted, yes...these macaroons look like an extra-terrestrial hamburger. But the taste was unreal. At first glance it would seem you're about to bite into an extravagant Oreo cookie. It was anything but. The top/bottom layer consists of an extremely light, flaky sweet layer. And the filling...jesus. A very smooth, not-too-sweet , creamy goodness of buttercream frosting. It was almost confusing.
The above flavor was Pistachio...but that was tame compared to the rest. Hot chocolate with Coffee, Strawberry with Poppy Seeds, and Coconut with White Chocolate and Blood Orange.
Preposterous. <----- Read that with a stuffy, old woman British accent if you can.
There was probably about 15 more flavors but I was too caught up in the mmmmmmm.
So, long story short...one by one you all arrived.
Rather, this was a damn good cookie. If you're in the greater New York area...it would behoove you to get your ass to this little French Gem.

We were both enjoying a week off a few weeks agao and had some luck with the weather during that week off.
Decided to visit National Park Dwingelderveld again and follow some hikingtrails.
Wanted to test and practice some more with our gear again.
Took as we do almost every time also some of our analog gear with us.
One of our Canon Eos 3 cameras was loaded with some fresh Ilford XP2 Super 400 for a change

Despite the influx of a new batch of Vectrons for SBB Cargo International, the company still has a number of hired in ELL liveried class members in use on international freight services.
One such example is Class 193, No.193 256 which is pictured passing through Einigen (between Spiez and Thun) with SBB Cargo liveried Vectron No.193 466 'Bellinzona' leading an intermodal service from Italy.
