The wave came up over my feet and I took a step further into the water, feeling the flow of the tide tugging me forward. A few meters out a smooth rock rose above the tide. The light danced off of its surface as the water washed over it. I wanted to get closer and I waded out until the bottom just about disappeared. Sanity prevailed and I took a step back, resisting the siren’s call.

The largest living lizard on the planet, the Komodo Dragon can grow up to an impressive 10 feet and up towards 150lbs. They are interesting in not only their size, but also that their mouths secrete a bacteria that has been studied over the years since it was originally considered a venom, but the toxic proteins that the Komodo Dragon secretes acts more like an anticoagulant which eventually works to weaken larger prey after a single bite. At which point, the Dragons follow the scent of their slowly dying prey where, communally, they will feed. I find them fascinating and impressive, to say the least. NIGHT FALLS OVER LINVILLE - Share it if you like it!
On a recent trip to the Linville Gorge, I wanted to stop and do a little night photography, also known as astrophotography. Looking over the gorge towards Morganton, NC, the glow of the yellow city lights and the deep blue night sky made a beautiful palette of colors perfect for a gorgeous photograph. Anyone who is a Motown citizen knows the familiar horizon line of Hawksbill and Table Rock Mountains, but I wanted to create an image that people don't normally see. Adding something different, like the night sky full of stars, to something so familiar puts a different perspective on an iconic silhouette. It is our job as photographers to do exactly this so that the world can experience views of things that they may not normally see. This is the number one reason I love my job so much! Enjoy, and make sure you visit the gorge soon for some of the most beautiful and wild vistas in our area!

Another year has come to a close and the end of a decade has arrived. These are the #2019bestnine #Instagram photos from the #TreasuresOfTraveling blog. I love that the majority of the nine photos displayed are of mother nature's beauty! Whether it was a picture of a sunrise, the blood wolf moon or of waves crashing onto Kure Beach, the photos were mostly taken of natural beauty we can see and experience in the world around us! The last few photos were taken in Granada, Spain. This Spanish city is unique because of its incredible mix of cultures. I want to thank everyone for coming along on the journey with me, liking the photos, reading my stories and showing your support!
