Marco (7) drew this bird with a nest.

if you thought the view from my balcony was peaceful, think again... i felt guilty about chasing away the wood pigeons from their nest, but the crow trying to take over the magpies' nest didn't seem to have scruples. they chased the crow away, but it keeps trying.

From a distance it's hard to tell these trees are filled with nests, and the nests are filled with Great Blue Herons. There are plenty more nests to the left and right of this view. This was my first visit to Wangunk Meadows Wildlife Management Area, on the east bank of the CT River. The rookery across the water is on Gildersleeve Island in the middle of the river. I would need waders and a longer lens to get closer shots - or maybe a boat (once the ice on the river melts) - but even at that distance I could hear lots of cronking. (Cronking = croaking + honking) Check out heron sounds at www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Great_Blue_Heron/sounds.

Two nest boxes on a tree.

Like this Osprey I have been very busy getting my " nest"... (new house) in order. Happy to say I am now settled enough to get back to photograpy and flickr ;-)

Inside the box - the Nest is covered with a clear plastic sort of cup - it is probably there to protect the Nest screen.

Old nest cleaned out of a bird house in February, preparing it for this year's nesting season. Note the nesting material, either Pygora goat fleece or Best Nest Builder, both available in our shops.

Tiger’s Nest - so easy to photograph - so hard to get to.

We had a beautiful day for the climb. Five hours all up, including a well-deserved lunch. Tough day, but I’m very happy I did it.

In July 2023, we went to Bhutan with Hugh, Chiara and Andrew Davis, on Ewen Bell’s ‘Best Bhutan’ tour. It was part 60th birthday to myself and partly a reward for submitting my PhD. We had a great time, and it was just what I needed.

Well, I was blown away today.

Not only did I discover another good cup of Earl Grey tea on offer in a Crows Nest Cafe BUT it was Taylors of Harrogate!!! So it wasn't just good is was sensational!

Just for the record Taylors is my absolute favourite brand of Earl Grey - it is unbelievably good...and to find it in a little sandwich shop totally blew me away. The food was sensational as well!

There wasn't a expansive view of a stunning interior to sketch today so I had more time to sketch and enjoy my lunch.. but I hope that I have captured the essences of this little cafe from the seat that I had.

This is part of my review of the earl grey tea that is on offer in cafes in Crows Nest Sydney. The rest of the series is here

The Dusty Miller pub in Barlborough, Derbyshire, is popular not only with humans but also with birds. In late June there were no less than 5 swallows' nests near the guttering, here you can see 2 young swallows getting ready to fly ont of the nest :-)

The Columbus Smith Estate

1177 Shard Villa Road, West Salisbury, Vermont USA • Cut stone, 2-1/2 story. French Second Empire style.

Home grown attorney Columbus Smith’s first great success was started in 1844, on behalf of the descendants of Frances Mary Shard, who died in England in 1819. His eventual win in 1858, after 14 years of research, multiple trips to England, legal filings, appearances & multiple appeals made him one of the richest men in Vermont. He would soon build and name his own estate after a women he never met.

He moved his ancestral home a bit to the north, and assembled an amazing team to build his mansion and grounds, from 1872-74: [1] the plan was based on “Design No. 19", in his copy of the 1869 pattern book “National Architect” by George E. Woodward; [2] the first plans were drawn by Warren Thayer, architect, Burlington, VT, and turned over to: [3] George & Clinton Smith (father & son) to detail the plans inside and out, and be the builders (at the time called “joiners”); [4] Robert Morris Copeland, Boston, MA (landscape architect - then called “landscape gardener”); and [5] in 1886-87, he brought Italian Muralist Sylvio Pezzoli to live in the Estate, while painting walls, ceilings, floors. screens and portraits.

Columbus's widow, Harriet, upon her death in 1919, willed the estate and fortune to become that we call today an Elder Care Home. A 2-1/2 story brick addition, with 14 rooms with private baths opened in 1922.

The Estate has been on the National Register of Historic Places (#89001789), since 1989.

O maior incentivador deste evento, o Ver.

A Corrida e Caminhada Por Uma Vida Sem Drogas, teve apoio do Projeto Juventude Contra o Crack, Por Uma Vida Sem Drogas, Clínica Grand House, E³ Assessoria e Organização Esportiva, Federação Paulista de Atletismo, CET, Athletics Federation SP e Equipe Jean Madeira.

Found on the ground in the woods, most likely a chaffinch nest.

Please note the design of the nest. House Sparrows always build an nest that looks like it has a handle on top, as if the nest could be carried like a small bag. The entrance is a round opening which turns and faces the front of the nesting box. A Bluebird nest is flat.

There is another nest box design that I have tested and works very well to keep Sparrows from moving in. Instead of a 1.5 inch hole in the door, the door is solid and a slot is left between the top of the door and the roof of the nest box. the slot is 1.5 inches in height. What this is suppose to do is discourage the Sparrow because the Sparrow nest design has the nest entrance facing the front of the box. This is to say the Sparrow would have trouble accessing the nest since the entrance is basically from the top of the nest box door.

Bird's Nest, Beijing, China, E-PL1

This is the second year in a row that the house finches have built a nest in my hanging flower pot. I gave up on live plants a long time ago; I can't seem to keep them alive because they dry out so fast! These are fake geraniums and this is the second year I've used them. At some point they'll fade enough that I'll have to replace them. But it makes a perfect spot for the house finches to nest and I don't have to worry about drowning the babies by watering! There are two hatchlings and two eggs in this picture; the remaining two eggs hatched the next morning.

i made this for my mother for her birthday - the first day of spring.
