to get such a clear shot, I used a tripod, with the mirror locked up, set the meter mode to spot metering and centered up on the moon. I then used photoshop elements ten to add a highpass filter layer in overlay mode. the last step was cropping it down to put the moon in the lower corner for effect.

Today . . . I don’t know where to begin. There were parts of the day when I felt like I was going to have a meltdown, write ‘I am a fish’ 400 times on my notebook and run out into the street screaming and trying to swat invisible flies.

It's a work thing - I’m meant to be taking over the team I’m in while my boss is seconded to a major project for 18 months – on the face of it this sounds great, and it is, it’s a great opportunity for me.

Thing is: I don’t think I know what I’m doing.

I’m trying to get to grips with things but today just felt like I was bouncing from one moment of confusion to another. And I can’t see how that’s going to change despite my lovely boss and her (also lovely) boss being encouraging – I know I’m coming up short. I don’t think they realise quite how out of my depth I am.

It’s lack of experience that’s letting me down, and I wouldn’t be feeling like this if I wasn’t preparing to make the step up as I think I’m coping OK in my current role. I just have this feeling of dread that everything’s going to go wrong and I’ll be the goon who’s messed it all up. The trouble is that there’s no one else who can step into my bosses job – amazingly, even though my lack of experience is frightening I’m still the most experienced member of the team apart from my boss. The big problem is that we’ll be replacing 14+ years of expertise with just over a year’s worth.

So tonight’s shot is a visual representation of how I’ve felt all day – in the dark and under pressure.

Sheer Heart Attack crushing flowers beneath it's treads.

My girlfriend and I ventured out to Cannon Beach to escape the heatwave in Portland back in August 2017. When we got there, the sun was directly in my face, so I opted for some silhouette shots of the beach's iconic Haystack Rock. This is a photograph of the Haystack's lower elevation, with the full height of Haystack itself rising on the right side of the photo.

Haystack Rock is a 235-foot sea stack in Cannon Beach, Oregon. It is sometimes claimed locally to be the third-tallest such intertidal structure (meaning it can be reached by land) in the world, but there are no official references to support this.

The haze from the BC fires had made it all the way down to Oregon, so we had muted skies with no proper sunset... the sun disappeared about 5 degrees above the horizon. I do appreciate the benefit that the haze brought to the photo.

Nikon D610 and NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 at 122mm, f/8, ISO 100, exposed for 1/400 second in Aperture priority, ‒2 EV, Matrix metering mode. Blemish removal, white balance, exposure, saturation, haze, and clarity adjusted in Adobe Lightroom Classic.

This little guy has entertained me many times by puffing his throat out making it into one very large pink bubble. He often sits on my rocker on the porch where I can see him from my desk throughout the day and sleeps underneath the pillow that's on it. I don't know where he goes in the winter, but hopefully he'll be back in the spring. <3

I couldn't get excited about using the tree branches "as they were", so I took the original and pieced it into a quad to see what composition it might make. I wasn't the first one to notice that the branches looked like antlers.

White fury - like my version of Zoolander's Blue Steel. Self portrait taken at home.

Had the concept for a few days but was unsure of the background to use. One day a sea mist rolled in, strongly backlit by the sun. I stood in a dark corner of my front room with a window behind me and took the shot aiming to overexpose.

I like the contrast between the black of my face and the bright white background. I also like the contrast between the high detail of my face and zero detail in the rest of the shot. And the 'Godzilla breath' of the distant horizon lined up with my mouth. The detail does highlight my 'sunglasses' suntan though - damn!

I feel that this photo fall with in this catergories because of the well exposed sky and the the dark forest light with rule of third aplying to the sun lite leaves

Happy half-birthday, sweetie! You're only six months away from one BIG party!

I can't believe it's been six months already! I am so glad to have such a great wife and amazing daughter. This project is half way done... what a wonderful perspective I have on time now. I value every day on this earth even more as a consequence. Thanks, flickrite's for your support and encouragement.

Let the project countdown begin! Only 184 days left!

Chris, Emily and I went to an art garden today. It was awesome and a nice way to break up all the sadness from graduation.

Another addition to the Mono Nights series. I never even considered cropping this one because i love all the negative space on there with the abstract tail lights. This was at about 2 a.m. on the road trip down to Georgia of a car that was in front of us.

Yes, she can hold her head up and look around without support! Stronger and stronger every day!
