The ideal season for a trip to the Langhe is autumn. To better breathe the poetry of these hills and not miss the magic of colors, the feast of flavors and the sweet autumn sun.

The phenomenon of the falling leaves of the vineyards and woods is an exciting spectacle ...

The hills are transformed into a palette of colors: bright red where Dolcetto flourishes, different shades of yellow from the Moscato and Nebbiolo vineyards (one of the few red grape varieties that in autumn have the colors of the leaves in yellow) and brown and the violet of Barbera.

La Morra is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Cuneo in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 50 kilometres (31 mi) southeast of Turin and about 40 kilometres (25 mi) northeast of Cuneo. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 2,668 and an area of 24.3 square kilometres (9.4 sq mi)

The municipality of La Morra contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Annunziata, Santa Maria, Rivalta, and Berri.

La Morra borders the following municipalities: Alba, Barolo, Bra, Castiglione Falletto, Cherasco, Narzole, Roddi, and Verduno.

History

La Morra originated as Murra (Latin: "sheep fencing"), a village built in the Roman era by the nearby town of Alba Pompeia. In 1631 it became a possession of the House of Savoy.

Long a major wine growing region, it was illegal in La Morra to cut down a Nebbiolo vine. The penalties for this offense ranged from a fine, to having a hand amputated to hanging.

It's harvest time in The Langhe wine region of Piemonte, Italy. These old vines are part of the terroir of this region that produces some of the most beautiful wines in the world from the nebbiolo grapes. Captured with my Olympus E-M1.

HAPPY WEDNESDAY WINE, MY FRIENDS....

Piedmont. Or Piemonte. Whichever way you say it: hard two-syllable, American-style or lilting with three syllables like an Italian, the word carries mystical qualities. It conjures visions of fog-shrouded hills, white truffle-sniffing dogs and noble wines. Most wine lovers associate Piedmont with the famous reds of Barolo, but as anyone who has visited the region knows, it’s large, complex and full of surprises. A thousand books could be written on Piedmont.

Ingranditela e guardate lo stelo del calice :-)

The Langhe stretch from Cuneo to Asti and are characterized by the hilly landscape dotted with vineyards, villages and towns. They are a fascinating place in every season, but in autumn admiring the foliage in the Langhe will make you feel like you are inside a painting. It is no coincidence that the Langhe have become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In addition to natural beauty, these places have maintained the integrity and popular culture, carrying on a tradition linked to wine and local products.

This territory can be easily visited by car or motorcycle by getting lost among the sweet hills and rich vineyards.

In order to enjoy even more the colors of the foliage in the Langhe, I suggest you to visit them in a clear day: the blue sky in contrast with the bright colors of the vineyards is a postcard!

This territory is famous all over the world for its wines and for its good food, eno-gastronomical specialties that can be tasted surrounded by characteristic villages and castles to be visited.

In short, tourism in Langhe is surely associated to wine and it is right here that some of the most famous Italian wines are produced. The territory is varied and for this reason we can find a wide range of wines in a small area. Just to mention some of them: the famous Barolo, Moscato, Dolcetto, Nebbiolo and Barbaresco. Some of them take their name directly from the municipality of the area.

But why is foliage in Langhe so fascinating? Every kind of grape gives the leaves a different shade: you will find yellow, red, ocher and brown vineyards. If you can admire the landscape from a belvedere, every hill will have its own color and you will be able to try to recognize the type of wine produced. For example, it is impossible to be mistaken in front of a bright red colored hill: it is surely a Dolcetto vineyard and its leaves seem to be fake as they are beautiful and full of color.

This unusual Cedar of Lebanon is located among the vineyards of Nebbiolo, on the hills of the beautiful Langhe. It was planted here in 1856 to seal the love between two young people who were married. It was an auspicious gesture choosing a so robust and long-life tree that reflected their love, strong and durable. Today cedar still dominates these hills and seems to watch over the surrounding vineyards.

Grapes on the vine....

Mourvèdre, Barbera, Dolcetto, Gamay, Nebbiolo, Riesling and Corvina.

Abstract...

Serralunga d'Alba is a municipality in the Province of Cuneo in the Italian region Piedmont.

The medieval fortified castle (Castello), built in the mid-14th century, has often been described in history as an impregnable fortress.

In Serralunga d'Alba, vines of the Nebbiolo variety are grown for Barolo red wine with DOCG status, as well as Dolcetto d'Alba, a red wine with DOC status.
