Marinehafen

Naval port

The fortifications in Świnoujście, built in the German Empire (1848 to 1880), are well preserved except for Work I and (gradually restored since 2004) have now become a tourist attraction. There was already a naval base in Świnoujście, Germany, back in imperial times.

After 1933, a submarine port was built on the island of Karsibór and torpedo boats were stationed in Świnoujście itself. On March 12, 1945, the 8th US Air Fleet carried out a devastating air raid on Świnoujście, which targeted the naval port and largely destroyed the city.

Today's naval port became more important after Poland joined NATO on March 12, 1999 and is still under development.

I know I have posted a photo of this dish before but it always bowls me over- so I get the same thing every time. This place is located just outside one of the back gates of Mayport Naval Station. I visit a lot of the same places every year and I'm starting to plan my day around food. If you have a restaurant rec. for a town with a Navy or Marine Corps base- please feel free to share.

This pot was found in the Assistant Surgeon's house. Medecine was not very advanced in the early 19th century...

Discovery Harbour in Penetanguishene is a British naval and military base built as a result of the War of 1812 to safeguard access to Upper Canada.About 13 of the original buildings were reconstructured using the original blueprints. Each of the house are furnished with objects from the period according to the importance of the person leaving in it.

P.S. Pierre & Anca mentioned that maybe it was a bit tight on the left so I went back to my original and in PhotoShop added a bit more space on the left to give the bowl more breathing space. It was easy to do because the colours were very dark and uniform..

Decided to come here for the sunset instead of watch the L.A. Lakers lose game 3 to the

San Antonio Spurs. Met up with another photographer who was really cool. We talked for a bit then I made my way home. Overall it was a really great evening, even if the Lakers lost. Hope everyone is enjoying the Memorial Day weekend. :D

Rover Class tanker "Gold Rover" seen at HMNB Portsmouth in August 2018 from a Brittany Ferries ship. She was retired in March 2017 after 43 years service to the Royal Navy. Now awaiting someone to come and chop her up.

We were so lucky to have both new aircraft carriers in the Dockyard for our visit.

Across the basin No. 1 is HMS Prince of Wales.

HMS Prince of Wales (R09) is the second Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carrier of the Royal Navy. Unlike most large aircraft carriers, Prince of Wales is not fitted with catapults and arrestor wires, and is instead designed to operate STOVL aircraft; the ship is currently planned to carry up to 48 F-35B Lightning II stealth multirole fighters and Merlin helicopters for airborne early warning and anti-submarine warfare, although in surge conditions the class is capable of supporting 70+ F-35B. The design emphasises flexibility, with accommodation for 250 Royal Marines and the ability to support them with attack helicopters and troop transports up to and larger than Chinook size.

The completed Prince of Wales began sea trials in September 2019 and first arrived at her new home base of HMNB Portsmouth in November 2019. The ship was formally commissioned into the Royal Navy at a ceremony in Portsmouth on 10 December 2019. The ship's commissioning date marked the 78th anniversary of the sinking of her predecessor, a World War II era battleship which was lost in action along with HMS Repulse in 1941. She is the eighth Royal Navy ship to have the name HMS Prince of Wales. Construction of the ship began in 2011 at Rosyth Dockyard and ended with launch on 21 December 2017. She was handed over to the Royal Navy in 2019.

When on operations, Prince of Wales will form a central part of a UK Carrier Strike Group, comprising escorts and support ships, with the aim to facilitate carrier-enabled power projection.
