Scotch Pond is a historic moorage site

Scotch Pond consists of a pond, originally a slough, dredged in the early 1950s and connected by a channel to the Strait of Georgia. Along with the pond are the remains of wooden boardwalk pilings which run directly along the south edge of the pond and were constructed in 1899 as part of the Scottish Canadian Cannery operation.

38' converted wooden tug boat

Ella McKenzie. a Glen-Class tug, is the last wooden tug built by McKenzie and Derrick Company LTD., at the Dollarton Shipyard in North Vancouver, British Columbia in 1951.

She was commissioned by and named for the grandmother of the president of McKenzie Barge & Marine Ways LTD., R.R. McKenzie.

Ella McMenzie worked as a harbour tug and dredge tender along the BC coast and in Vancouver, until 1971.

Her duties also included cleaning up oil spills in Coal Harbour.

She was used in light commercial operations by subsequent owners until she was restored for pleasure use.

Ella McKenzie had a complete refit in 2006, including all new timbers and woodwork.

Few things say "nautical" more than seashells. My small shells are placed on a blue and grey patterned scarf to suggest the colours and movement of the sea. For Macro Mondays Group .

Take A Look

There is always boat and commercial fishing paraphernalia lying around the north quayside in Ramsey, Isle of Man. I noticed a large fishing net had been spread out for some repairs with a large bodkin lying on top. There were lots of thick ropes but the main body of the net used much thinner nylon cords with a grid pattern joined by knots. With the lengths of cord either side of this knot, this scene was approximately 1 inch before the crop, so there is around 0.75 of an inch here in a 135 image stack, created in Zerene. The backdrop is bundled nylon stuff of various colours. Knot was lit with double headed macro flash from two directions.

My brother has a bookcase shelf full of seashells that belonged to our great-aunt. He let me borrow some for today. Thanks, Mark! I chose these two because they were color coordinated. : )

Warm evening light, accentuates the boarder's skin tones and lights up the boat, yet contrasts with the icy blue tones and the snow peaked, Mount Baker background.

Mt Baker also known as Koma Kulshan or simply Kulshan, is an active glaciated andesitic stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc and the North Cascades of Washington in the United States. (Wikipedia)
