are fun to exercise my drawing brain, eye and hand and I use them often in my classes. This is an uncommon shell to find on Cape Cod beaches since it is usually in deep water but this one washed in after a storm.

and butterflies are painted from life. I have been working on a whole series of these each spring but forgot I had these tucked away.

The Hudson River was teaming with fishermen this morning and I hope they dug up worms and Pedes as good as these!

is about ready to burst while there are still some blossoms unfolding on the first.

I love this little sketch because of the story it tells. The big catfish (or bullhead depending where you live) had a den of sorts under the overhang at the side of the pond. The sunfish had a nest about a foot away. Do you see the tiny fry swimming about? I don't know if the fry belonged to the big catfish or the sunfish.....but it seemed sort of ominous.

is what I say to this drawing. I did a little hatching to break up all the linear swirliness but really didn't like it. I felt committed to it at a certain point but am not sure it was a good choice from beginning to end. I like the overall composition though so may try another from this angle.

is one of my favorite things to do. It combines everything I love; being outdoors, drawing, observing, writing...

three poses. I like taking one small subject and making up a composition moving it about. It's not my nature to draw across the center line so my mind and hand is still adjusting and my composition is a bit off.
