The "European praying mantis" (Mantis Religiosa) Die "Europäische Gottesanbeterin" (Mantis Religiosa) by Ingrid Stuller

The "European praying mantis" (Mantis Religiosa) is the only representative of the order of mantis (Mantodea) occurring in Central Europe.

Females can grow up to 75 mm long, males are much smaller and reach a length of up to 60 mm.

The basic coloration ranges from pale green to brown.

The elongated neck shield and the large triangular, very mobile head are striking!

 

Die "Europäische Gottesanbeterin" (Mantis Religiosa)ist die einzige in Mitteleuropa vorkommende Vertreterin der Ordnung der Fangschrecken (Mantodea)

Weibchen können bis zu 75 mm lang werden, die Männchen sind deutlich kleiner und erreichen eine Länge bis zu 60 mm.

Die Grunfärbung reicht von zartgrün bis braun.

Auffallend sind der verlängerte Halsschild und der große dreieckige, sehr bewegliche Kopf!

Unexpected encounter

 

Oft wird abwertend das Wort Schwein genannt. Dabei sind Schweine sehr sozial lebende Tiere.

Da ist z. B. das gemütliche und sanftmütige Hängebauchschwein.

Mit seinem markant tief hängenden Bauch, dem faltigen Gesicht und den kurzen Beinchen ist es ein sehr lebhaftes, gutmütiges und stressresistentes Tier.

Diese Schweinchen können sehr schlecht sehen, eigentlich alle Schweine.

Dafür können sie hervorragend riechen. Sie sehen sozusagen mit der Nase!

The caterpillar looks for a protected place to pupate after 14-21 days and can move relatively far from the feeding site to do so. From about mid-July a butterfly hatches from the pupa. This second generation of swallowtails again lays eggs on the above-m by Ingrid Stuller

Die Raupe sucht sich nach 14-21 Tagen einen geschützten Ort zum Verpuppen und kann sich dazu relativ weit vom Futterplatz entfernen. Etwa ab Mitte Juli schlüpft aus der Puppe ein Schmetterling. Diese zweite Generation der Schwalbenschwänze legt im August/September wiederum Eier an die oben erwähnten Futterpflanzen ab.

The fire salamander has already survived the dinosaurs. The animals have spent the past few months in frost-free holes and crevices in the ground, but now the legendary prehistoric animals are coming out into the open again. In view of the spring-like tem by Ingrid Stuller

Der Feuersalamander hat schon die Dinosaurier überlebt. Die vergangenen Monate haben die Tiere in frostfreien Erdlöchern und Erdspalten verbracht, jetzt kommen die sagenumwobenen Urtiere wieder ins Freie. Angesichts der frühlingshaften Temperaturen ist es mit der Winterruhe endgültig vorbei!
