Cleaning my toothbrush in a natural mixture of baking soda, vinegar, and water. I couldn't resist those bubbles!
I first saw these growing in Kerala, they're called peechinga and they're edible - delicious in dhal and when they're mature and dried they can be used for cleaning, exfoliating skin, scrubbing the bath.
When I'm making soap, I use a long round container, stuff a loofah into it, then fill up with the molten soap and when the soap is solid, cut the soap and loofah into slices.
This is it! The best homemade laundry soap powder you will ever find!
3 cups Borax
2 cups Baking Soda
2 cups Washing Soda
2 cups Bar soap (grated) (One 5 ounce bar of soap)
Grate the soap with the fine tooth grater. The smaller the soap flakes, the better they dissolve in water.
Sift the dry ingredients. This is important because anything that isn't tiny (and goes through the sifter) is too big to dissolve quickly in the washer and you will end up with tiny, white, grainy dots on your cloths.
Mix all ingredients well and store in a sealed tub.
Use 2 tablespoons of powder per full load.
NOTES:
1. Borax and washing soda can be found on the laundry asile.
2. Most any soap will work for this recipe. You do not want anykind of "beauty bar" for this soap...the moisturizing agents leave a residue on clothing. Ivory is the most cost effective and is my favorite and seems to work well for sensitive skin. Of course, I use my own olive oil soap (Plain, Traditional, Unscented) and it works fantastic but is a little more pricey for my customers. Using my soap makes this power a truely natural and eco friendly product with no sulfates or fragrances.
I've been meaning to try making a natural orange cleaner, especially as that's what I buy and use, tonight I suddenly clicked that today's soccer orange peels were the perfect chance!! #naturalcleaning #oranges

flowerpress: Just put them in white vinegar @kat900, easy! Do you dilute it at all @craftyrie? And do you do just two weeks?
craftyrie: Never dilute. I've never timed it but as long as you can see the vingar has taken on the colour, it'll be good to go.
littleearthstories: Great idea... would love a recipe/quantities too! ๐ @flowerpress @craftyrie
pammy2726: Interesting๐๐
flowerpress: I'm no expert @littleearthstories but there is a natural proportion to the vinegar/orange mix, in my jar the oranges sit above the vinegar level. I think you can shake the jar too to move them around, it will be interesting to see if they collapse down.
craftyrie: I don't have 'set quantities' when making mine. I normally add more vinegar to my jar than @flowerpress does. @littleearthstories
littleearthstories: Thanks, I'll give it a go! @craftyrie @flowerpress
clancy555: Impressive
