Native American Wisdom:

Hold On:

Hold on to what is good,

Even if it's a handful of earth.

Hold on to what you believe,

Even if it's a tree that stands by itself.

Hold on to what you must do,

Even if it's a long way from here.

Hold on to your life,

Even if it's easier to let go.

Hold on to my hand,

Even if someday I'll be gone away from you.

I don't know if her outfit is a genuine Barbie outfit. Maybe it's a "Dinner Date" Fashion? Does someone knows? The fabric of the skirt looks familiar to me but I can't recall where I saw it..

Anyway, dressed like this, Native American Barbie makes me think of Cristal Flores Carrington ( played by Nathalie Kelley) from the Netflix "Dynasty" show reboot (which I'm totally addicted to)

I can't believe that I am just now reading this classic for the first time - amazing book and sad that not much has changed since it was written.

I attended the 49.5th annual Barona Powwow (9/5/2021) with this year’s theme being, “Back to our roots.” It was an amazing event filled with culture, dance performances and amazing colors!

Originally a Powwow or "celebration" (as it was called in older days), was held in the spring to welcome the new beginnings of life. It was a time for people to get together, sing, dance, renew old friendships and make new ones and a time for young people to meet and court. Some trace the word "Powwow" to the Algonquin language. The Europeans may have adopted that word to mean a council or meeting.

Yours truly (yes, finally revealed) gone native in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Near the Night Bazaar at Chang Klang Road there's a cluster of photostudios that specialize in fitting you out as Lana royalty and then shoot photos such as this one in marvellous antique decors.

We dropped in one evening, thought it would be fun, and it took hours.

The headgear is not something just popped on my head. No sir. It consists of many different pieces of cloth that are wound around your head, one by one. Everything else, too, is meticulously put in place.

So although not a photo taken by me by all means and purposes, I am the owner of it.

Of course we have whole series in different poses - also of my partner in crime and of us together - but I thought I was striking a good 'royal' pose here and thought I'd share it with you.

So if you're ever in Chiang Mai, be sure not to miss this special attraction ....

Native American Quote:

"Out of the Indian approach to life there came a great freedom, an intense and absorbing respect for life, enriching faith in a Supreme Power, and principles of truth, honesty, generosity, equity, and brotherhood as a guide to mundane relations."

Cooper's hawk (Astur cooperii) is a medium-sized hawk native to the North American continent and found from southern Canada to Mexico. This species was formerly placed in the genus Accipiter. As in many birds of prey, the male is smaller than the female. The birds found east of the Mississippi River tend to be larger on average than the birds found to the west. It is easily confused with the smaller but similar sharp-shinned hawk.

Ground was broke in 1999 for the chosen design and the memorial was dedicated in 2003. Temporary panels were installed until final wording on the granite was decided which was completed in 2013. The design is meant to blend in with the surrounding landscape as well as respect traditional spiritual beliefs.

Indian Wisdom:

"When it comes time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song, and die like a hero going home."

Inverawe Native Gardens is a 22 acre garden winding around the shores of North West Bay, just 15 minutes south of Hobart CBD. Inverawe enjoys spectacular views to North Bruny Island and features thousands of Australian native plants in a landscaped setting.

These bluebells are all over our back garden and were here when I bought the house in 1984 - well established! They are the native species, protected, and it prohibited by law to dig up the bulbs for sale. We have dug up some though....to give to other people to plant in their gardens!!! Otherwise nothing else would survive in the garden (except for the dandelions and ivy), as they spread and the leaves overshadow other plants!

The English bluebell should not be confused with the Scottish bluebell or harebell, Campanula rotundifolia. Hyacinthoides means "like a hyacinth"; Endymion is another character from Greek myth; Scilla was the original Greek name for sea squill, Urginea maritima.

Other common names for common bluebell include: auld man's bell, bluebell, calverkeys, culverkeys, English bluebell, jacinth, ring-o'-bells, wilde hyacint, and wood bells.

Identification:

The common bluebell flowers in April and May. The stems are 10-30 cm long and bend over at the top. The lavender-blue flowers are pendulous, tubular with the petals recurved only at the end. The individual flowers are borne on one side of the flowering stem only. The anthers are yellowish-white or cream and are attached inside the tube more than half-way along the tube. The flowers are pleasantly and usually strongly scented. The leaves, which are all basal, are narrowly linear lanceolate. Variations in colour occur, most usually pinkish or in a white variant, H. non-scripta 'Alba'. Pollination is by insects, including bees. The black seeds may have a long period of survivability and can emerge after several years' absence if suitable conditions recur. The seedlings can flower in two years from seed; as a result, bluebells can quickly spread in suitable conditions.

Hybridisation:

In Britain and probably elsewhere there has been extensive hybridisation with the introduced Hyacinthoides hispanica producing fertile seeds. This has produced hybrid swarms around sites of introductions and, since the hybrids are able to thrive in a wider range of environmental conditions, the hybrids are frequently out-competing the native Bluebells. Hybrids show a great range of characteristics and any one of the following features indicates some hybridisation:

Stems upright and not nodding

Flowers borne on more than one side of the flowing stem

The flower is more open and bell-shaped and does not have a long and more-or-less parallel sided tube

The anthers, at least when young, are blue or cyan and not white or cream

The leaves are broader

The scent is less strong and less sweet.

Our next door neighbour has the non-native type of bluebell...... :o(

I love these prolific reseeders.

Native American Wisdom Quotes

The True Peace

The first peace, which is the most important,

is that which comes within the souls of people

when they realize their relationship,

their oneness, with the universe and all its powers,

and when they realize that at the center

of the universe dwells Wakan-Taka (the Great Spirit)...
