In the northwest San Juans east of the small town of Ridgway resides a lonely tower: Chimney Rock (also sometimes called Chimney Peak, 11,781 feet).
In the late afternoon we left the Silverjack reservoir back to Ridgway. From Owl Creek Pass Road (Ouray County Road 8), we saw through the forest as the last rays of the sun made the mountain massif glow. Unfortunately there was only a clear view of the Chimney Rock in a curve, but enough to make a few last pictures of it to capture the experience.

Back on the discovery trail in front of the Tree of Time (Legend of Korra) because I didn’t want to drive 13 miles north of this spot on a rough dirt road to Patriarch Grove. Next month I will post photos of the Bristlecone Pine trees in Patriarch Grove.

A view of the falls from within the cave behind the falls. There isn't a large volume of water pouring over this waterfall but being able to easily see it from behind is cool.
Snowshoeing in the Happy Jack Recreation Area, in the Medicine Bow National Forest, near Laramie Wyoming
Sometimes I have been out looking for birds when the light just gets absolutely amazing and there are no birds to be found. The situation becomes a race to find any subject to try to take advantage of the light and all too often that perfect light is so short lived that it’s gone before a subject can be located. I thought that was going to be the case with this Cactus Wren from our recent Arizona trip. The sun had been blocked by some clouds as it was getting close to the horizon and I didn’t think we would get much color. Just a few minutes before sunset, however, the sun went across a little gap in the clouds and it was absolutely glorious. To my surprise this Cactus Wren wasn’t too far away and it actually stayed on its perch while I moved around to get some of that sunset color in the background. That NEVER happens!!!

From a recent 4WD camping trip with Michael to Craig's Hut, Mount Stirling, in the Victoria high country.
A heavy frost overnight meant we were greeted by a carpet of white. Not quite snow, but the next best thing.
A trio of mountains in the Sawatch Range named for the Native American chief of the Tabeguache band of the Ute tribe, his wife and his daughter. Mt. Ouray is also called the "devil's armchair" and at 13,961' is just 39' short of being a 14er.

Mt. Chaukhamba is a majestic four-peaked mountain ( 23,419 feet) is the highest peak in the Gangotri Group.

Spotted this man and his faithful dog out fishing. I suspect they are calling it a day after the rain started. Willow Springs Lake is a beautiful lake on the Mogollon Rim not far from Payson Arizona. This is in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests.
I needed to get up at 4 am to enjoy this amazing view from mount Ogasawara, but it was totally worth it.
Have a nice day everyone!
