The East Gallery, frescoed by Per Krohg on the theme of the City & the Country

This is the Krohg Room, East Gallery. All the walls are covered in detailed paintings, from corner to corner, floor to ceiling. Per Krohg named the decoration of this room “The city and its environs”. Here you can see that Oslo is both a very busy city and a calm countryside.

Best Large ... You only need your eyes to see it,and your heart to love it ...

The idea that art may imitate life is at least as old as Aristotle's Poetics ...

Oslo City Hall,a Visual Feast ,a Monument to Norwegian Social Democracy

Massive Murals,Munch Paintings and Frescos that decorate various rooms, entryways and halls and adorn almost every wall. All are lovingly painted and depict important moments from the city's history and scenes from the everyday life.A worthy visit with all the artworks that reflect the value of National Identity and represent the pillars of Norway : fishing, forestry, and industry.

In the Central Hall,Henrik Sørensens' Mural (oil painting 1938-1950), "Administration and Festivity," depicts scenes from Norwegian history and legends.

I don't really know if Life imitates Art or if Art imitates Life.

Mimesis intermingles with Diegesis to my eyes although they have been contrasted since Plato's and Aristotle's times and they have divided the world.I feast my eyes upon the murals of truly epic proportions and I'm thinking that ...

"Life imitates art far more than art imitates life." So said the Irish poet, playwrite and astute observer of life,Oscar Wilde.

I think we shall have to believe it even though we cannot fully understand the concept.Yet,if we go through the artworks of Da Vinci,we might believe that "Life imitates Art ...

(The gigantic mural above is an oil painting by Henrik Sørensen. He called it " Labour - Administration - Celebration.”, and it is 12 x 42 metres)

“Late, by myself, in the boat of myself, no light and no land anywhere, cloud cover thick. I try to stay just above the surface, yet I’m already under and living within the ocean. ~Rumi

I have been having vivid dreams so I decided to read, “The Mythic Imagination” by Stephen Larsen. This took me down a rabbit hole of exploring women surrealist painters which has been thrilling. I’ve always loved surrealism, expressionism, intuitive art, narrative painting etc. I am also re-reading “ The Essential Rumi”. So above is a quote from a Rumi poem that I paired with my latest intuitive sketch. I thought the quote went very well with my imagery.

“This is the kind of Friend you are: Without making me realize my soul’s anguished history, you slip into my house at night. And while I am sleeping, you silently carry off all my suffering and sordid past in your beautiful hands.” ― Hafiz

I have found the most remarkable tool for painting when I’m not able to get up to my studio. Hopefully I will be able to make a YouTube video on it soon.

I don't get tired of you.

Don't grow weary of being

compassionate toward me!

I have a thirsty fish in me

This photograph features “Poppin Joze”, a vivid mixed-media work by Brazilian street art legends OSGEMEOS, as exhibited at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C. Known for their instantly recognizable yellow-skinned figures, twin brothers Otavio and Gustavo Pandolfo infuse their work with a surreal, dreamlike energy that draws from Brazilian culture, hip-hop, graffiti, and personal memory.

In Poppin Joze, we meet a stylized family rendered in OSGEMEOS’s trademark style: elongated limbs, small eyes, patterned clothing, and a flat, matte yellow skin tone that’s intended to represent a “neutral” humanity. The central figure, Joze, sports a bold blue shirt with “POPPIN JOZE” printed across the chest, surrounded by family members who evoke both intimacy and tension. A baby is cradled at the mother’s hip, a girl picks her nose, and a revolver is playfully (yet ominously) pointed into the frame.

Though cartoonish at first glance, the work is rich in emotional and socio-political resonance. This is a domestic scene shaped by urban hardship and resilience — equal parts tenderness, chaos, and coded commentary. Household clutter, scribbled wall drawings, and worn clothing all add to the textured realism. The shelf in the background with bottles and cans, the tired flooring, and the stereo speaker tucked under a foot all speak to lived-in space — layered, imperfect, real.

Framed in a vibrant green box and photographed against the Hirshhorn’s distinctive lavender wall during a special exhibition, Poppin Joze reflects the museum’s commitment to showcasing cutting-edge global contemporary art. OSGEMEOS, who began their careers as graffiti writers in São Paulo, have since exhibited in major institutions worldwide — and here, their street-inspired visual language translates powerfully to the museum setting.

This photo captures the artwork in full color and context — documenting not just the piece itself, but how it breathes within the museum space. It stands at the intersection of street and fine art, personal and political, playful and profound.

A whimsical night scene unfolds in this towering mural captured at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C., a beloved institution on the National Mall known for its commitment to bold, contemporary art. The artwork features a surreal narrative: a yellow-faced, pajama-clad figure reclining across two wooden boats adrift in a vivid teal sea. In one hand, the figure cradles a tiny, bright house, while a tilted lighthouse anchors the composition in the lower right. Above, a crescent moon with a dreamy, humanlike face gazes down through misty clouds, evoking both watchfulness and serenity. The moon’s expression adds emotional depth, suggesting themes of longing, guardianship, or the subconscious mind.

Rendered in richly saturated hues and gestural brushwork, the piece bridges reality and fantasy—key traits of the warchitecture movement, a style merging fantastical architecture and dreamlike scenes, often incorporating emotional storytelling and vibrant, mural-scale visuals. The ocean’s textured brushstrokes ripple with movement, heightening the sense of drifting and vulnerability. This floating dreamscape—possibly a metaphor for emotional journeying or cultural displacement—offers a moment of introspection, balancing playfulness with melancholy.

Like much of the Hirshhorn’s public-facing collection, the mural invites dialogue between viewer and space, blurring the boundaries between waking life and imagination. It's a celebration of artistic freedom that resonates especially strongly in a museum renowned for championing experimental voices.
