Kelly leaves work today to have her first baby so as a gift I have made for the first time ever a "nappy cake" or "Diaper cake" sarah and I had a great time making this three tier cake and finding lots of little items to include it is a first for me and I would change a few things if I was to ever make another
Nappy Chin is the name he has taken after renouncing his slave name, Carlos. The name Nappy Chin comes from his days of being a taxi driver on the south-side of Chicago and customers that didn't want to pay the fare would jump out of the cab and start calling "ol nappy chin mother ..." He moved here when he was around the age of 15 years old from New Orleans. He joined the military, and when he was stationed in Texas everyone there gave him a hard time and called him a gangster because of the Al Capone association Chicago carried with it. When he went back to New Orleans to visit friends of family, everyone started treated him different, believing that he thought he was a big shot now that he got out of New Orleans and moved to the Big CIty. When he settled down in Chicago, he became a cab driver and was held up no less that 8 times. Sometimes by knife, and other times at gun point. Once, in 1975, he was shot at. One bullet just missed his head, and the other lodged in his elbow. You can see in some of the pictures that his pinky and ring finger don't extend out anymore. He says that one day he'll start wearing his brace. I was first drawn to him becuase of his contrasty white beard and hair, and then was even more drawn in by his gentle eyes and funny stories. Nappy Chin has a beautiful way with customers that come up to him to buy copies of the paper, and he has a humorous and enlightening understanding of capitalism and the politics of our time. He's a beautiful soul, and if you see him slinging papers on the corner downtown by dearborn and adams, tell him you saw his picture.
I've been lacking some inspiration over the last couple of days, mainly due to tiredess as Chap has been so poorly, so today I resorted to endulging in my other addiction...cloth nappies (or diapers to those across the pond!). Yes, I am not just a photo-holic but a nappy-holic too, its sad but true!
I chose to use them in the first place to help save money and the environment but I kind of got sucked into the pretty patterns and fabrics along the way......but honestly we have saved heaps of money in the process & I promise the majority of Chap's nappies are plain white terry towelling....but these brighten his nappy drawer!

comparing all the M sizes of japanese brand here.
i found it fits baby j the best among these 3 and also merries' cotton is the softest here.
