L'accès du temple principal de de Pashupatinath est réservé aux hindouistes.....Mais par l'un des portails( ouvert) , on découvre depuis l'extérieur la statue de Nandi , statue en Bronze..... d'un taureau. Dans la mythologie indienne, le vâhana est l'être ou l'objet qui sert de monture ou de véhicule à une divinité.C'est une religion qui apparait complexe pour les européens qui découvrent..!!!!!!
Nandi est le vâhana de Shiva, le taureau blanc qui lui sert de monture, donné au dieu par Daksha.
Rappelons que le temple est dédié à Pashupati, l'incarnation de Shiva en tant que « maître des animaux »

Carved granite
The humped bull Nandi (which means "rejoicing") appears at the entrance of every temple dedicate to the Hindu god Shiva, facing the god with a constant serene gaze. Symbolising strength, virility and fertility, as well as religious and moral duties, Nandi is widely recognized both as Shiva's gatekeeper and as the animal which he rides. Seated with his legs tucked underneath his body, this figure portrays a representation of Nandi from the southern Indian tradition.

The Shiva's bull Nandi is a granite monolithic sculpture on the main road of Lepashki about 200m away from the temple. It is 4.5m high and 8.23m long making one of the largest nandi in India. The sculpture has been positioned so that it faces the Shivalinga which is shielded by a large serpent inside the temple. The nandi wears a kaasu malai, a bell chain, earrings and other jewellery.
