Brighton & Hove Buses name on the Bus 826 Dame Cicely Saunders

Connections with Brighton and Hove : Dame Cicely Saunders, founder of the British hospice movement, was born in 1918, the oldest of three children. She was educated at Roedean School in Brighton between 1932 and 1937 before going to St Anne’s College Oxford to read politics, philosophy and economics. The war intervened and she felt that she should do something much more positive with her life, so she studied nursing. She was much influenced by meeting a dying Polish man who gave her £500 for what was to be St Christopher’s hospice in London. Saunders caw clearly the need for many dying people to be given proper, expert care and was determined to do something about it. Now there are scores of hospices all over Britain. Shortly before her death, she gave a much acclaimed speech in Brighton which many people found moving. Created a Dame for her hospice movement work, she died at St. Christopher's, the hospice she had founded.

Thirty experts from Intellectual Property Offices (IPOs), data providers, industry, universities, and other entities gathered for the WIPO Standards Workshop on Name Standardization on May 2-3, 2019, at WIPO Headquarters

The first day explored approaches to standardizing applicant-provided names, while the second day focused on potential uses of identifiers to resolve name issues.

As a follow-up, the Name Standardization Task Force of the Committee on WIPO Standards will use this information to further explore developing potential standards for dealing with applicant names.

Voices whisper in the trees, "Tonight is Halloween!"

I Love Russia ! “Ballerina” is one of a few lady watches made by the Petrodvorets watch factory. Raketa brand is linked to such brilliant names as the Empress Catherine the Great , the Russian top model Natalia Vodianova and the first soloist dancer of Bolshoi theatre Anna Ovcharenko.

Ballerina watch is an epitome of the reliability of Russian watches, the beauty of Russian women and the glory of Russian ballet.

Volunteer Name: Lycourgas Manlpoulos, Project Location: Costa Rica

Program Dates: March 13 – March 24, 2014, Volunteered at: Sea Turtle (Pacific)

How was the local ABV Coordinator and the support provided in-country?

Nicky was very friendly. She spoke Spanish very well, and was always prepared. She has much knowledge about the sea turtles.

What was the most surprising thing you experience?

CR reminded me of Greece. I was able to adjust rather quickly to the scenery, food and water. The wildlife was also very surprising. I have never seen a cow with a hump on its back…

What was the most difficult to experience?

There is a lot to get “used to” when you arrive. There is a major shock due to lack of technology and electricity. You must be very social and open since you will be around others all the time. My biggest problem was adjusting to being very dirty every day!

Any tips for future volunteers… (Clothing, travel, personal items, donations)

Do not expect to be clean at any given moment. Bring bug spray and bedding, snacks and refillable water bottle, books and deck of cards and obviously deodorant.

Other things volunteers should know

A) Let the cook know about any special diets you have

b) Be aware water may be limited

c) Sand gets very hot!

Personal Paragraph (ABV Testimonial)

This was my very first trip abroad without my family. I was very excited to come to CR to help out the sea turtles and see the culture. This ABV program has definitely broadened my view of volunteering and the culture.

How would you describe your accommodations, meals, security?

I was very happy the cook provided my vegan meals. I like how we were able to travel to Samara to relax.

What was your favorite memory of this trip?

Meeting and chatting up new people and also my own group. I realized all of us had many things in common. Everyone seemed to have bonded at a high level of friendship.

How as the ABV support prior to traveling?

There was plenty of information provided to us so we were able to know what the project would be like.

I felt this information helped us adjust to the project easily and with less stress.

Are you willing to speak to other potential ABV volunteers?

Yes!

Now accepting potential names:))

This little bird working on tent caterpillars looks like a Pine in most ways, but has lines on its back.......

I saw this duck hanging out with a male Mallard, but it is not the typical female. So, what do you think?

I name things. Gilbert, the Sixmobile, Snuffleupagus, Roxy Rakin. Sometimes it feels good to pretend you are still a kid. My penguin is named Dilly.
