Having no new photos make me realize that old and almost forgotten photos are always better than none. These days and the days ahead are expected to be tight for me. No time to go out and shoot. The little time left after work is the time spent to check folders and scavenge for some pics.
I haven't seen this being mentioned anywhere on Flickr, so I thought it was worth bringing to people's attention here. On 15th August, LL gave us a new TOS to agree to, and it is causing quite an uproar in certain communities, for example, among artists and creators who own shops. It is also making waves outside of SL - I know that CG Textures changed their TOS so that the use of their textures inside of SL is banned now, and Renderosity has done the same.
Let me show you the part of the updated 15th August TOS that is causing such a reaction. You can find it in section 2.3:
"Except as otherwise described in any Additional Terms (such as a contestβs official rules) which will govern the submission of your User Content, you hereby grant to Linden Lab, and you agree to grant to Linden Lab, the non-exclusive, unrestricted, unconditional, unlimited, worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual, and cost-free right and license to use, copy, record, distribute, reproduce, disclose, sell, re-sell, sublicense (through multiple levels), modify, display, publicly perform, transmit, publish, broadcast, translate, make derivative works of, and otherwise exploit in any manner whatsoever, all or any portion of your User Content (and derivative works thereof), for any purpose whatsoever in all formats, on or through any media, software, formula, or medium now known or hereafter developed, and with any technology or devices now known or hereafter developed, and to advertise, market, and promote the same. You agree that the license includes the right to copy, analyze and use any of your Content as Linden Lab may deem necessary or desirable for purposes of debugging, testing, or providing support or development services in connection with the Service and future improvements to the Service. The license granted in this Section 2.3 is referred to as the βService Content License.β
Linden Lab has no obligation to monitor or enforce your intellectual property rights to your User Content, but you grant us the right to protect and enforce our rights to your User Content, including by bringing and controlling actions in your name and on your behalf (at Linden Labβs cost and expense, to which you hereby consent and irrevocably appoint Linden Lab as your attorney-in-fact, with the power of substitution and delegation, which appointment is coupled with an interest)."
What this basically means is, if you uploaded it, they can use it in whatever way they like, and if you logged in and agreed to the TOS by clicking through, whether you read it or not, you agreed to it.

In July I came up with a radical concept for SL that would address a major weakness in SL regarding LMs - LandMarks. I created a JIRA for it and presented it to LL on August 3rd 2012. They seem quite interested. The initial response from Merchants and those that have read about my VLM's concept have been majorly supportive. In fact a major SL blogger posted an excellent article on it this weekend.
I now need the support from fellow SL Residents.
I created a poster / info kit about it that anyone can come to my store and buy a copy for $0L and put at their store, mall, club, venue, art gallery.

WHAT ARE VLMs ?
============
Virtual Landmarks or commonly called VLMs are part of a new proposed service enhancement of the age old LMs (Landmarks) in SecondLife that we all know and love using but what has had a very large limitations.
Currently LMs on SL have a major design weakness / limitation in that once they are created and handed out by the 100s or 1000's by Store / Mall / Club / Venue / Hunt Owners and Organizers, they cannot be changed !!
This is a huge weakness for so many in SL since if one of these owners or organizers decided or must move the original LandMark they gave out to they customers or members, the old LMs instantly become useless and as a completely new one is need to be resent to everyone. It also means that store owners need to go back into all their products and vendors and LM givers and change all the old outdated LMs.
With the proposed VLM service, all this is a thing of the past. Creators of VLMs can manage the VLM and automatically modify / update a master entry for all the VLMs they hand out. Within seconds all the 1000's of VLMs that they handed out will be updated.
There are many other features and benefits to VLMs that have been documented in the official SL JIRA developed by Toysoldier Thor as well as great blogs and discussions threads on VLMS.

HOW DO I SHOW MY SUPPORT ON VLMs & VOTE ?

LL's has been formally presented the concept of VLMs on August 3rd, 2012 at a Server User Group meeting. The presentation was based on the formal SecondLife JIRA entry that was created on the proposed new concept. A JIRA is a SecondLife Support System issue/record that LL staff will officially recognize. The JIRA system has the ability for SL residents to voice their support for a JIRA by being able to login (using your SL ID and Password) and VOTING & WATCHING the issue. For LL it is very important that you click on WATCH !

Also, in order to show LL that SL Residents are serious about wanting this feature, it is very important that you promote the idea of VLMs without the sphere of your friends and using what ever means to communicate to the community. If you can BLOG, TWEET, put a Support Poster up at your store/mall/club/venue, talk to your User Groups, etc.... this will help show to LL that VLMs need to be a priority in SL,
