Large View On Black
It's been awhile since I posted a photo of the Toronto Skyline. On my way home from the grocery store yesterday I stopped by Lake Ontario to grab a City skyline shot............Oohh it was cold and windy let me tell you. (the wind screwed up my hair let me tell you lol I looked scary afterwards but it was worth it ) lol I just can't get over how far away I was and my little sony can get a shot like this..I have posted another photo so you can see how far away I actually was..I think the photo below really gives great perspective for you to see........I was actually about 20 miles away..........

I first noticed him ahead of me on the escalator exiting the subway and ending in the atrium of the shopping center. All I could see was the edge of his beard and his cape but I noticed how connected he seemed with his surroundings. While many travel about the city in a stupor or daydreaming, he seemed very aware and interested on his trip to the surface. I decided to approach him for my project and when I caught his attention from behind I realized what a truly excellent portrait subject he would be, with his dramatically curly, silver beard. His response was an immediate friendly smile, not a startle reaction and he said “Sure. I’d be glad to.” Meet Mark.
Mark seemed a bit surprised that with all the open space of the atrium, I was suggesting we go to a corner near windows where there would be more natural light. I gave him my contact card and showed him samples of my project photos and he quickly processed the information and put down his bag and umbrella on the nearby ledge. “No problem” was his attitude. He smilingly told me that he gets asked for photos fairly often. I’m not surprised.
Mark was very agreeable as I positioned him and took a few portraits and at one point he slipped into a pose of looking at the camera looking a bit mysterious. He told me his hashtag is streetwizard. I laughed and said I could see why. I finished with a photo from a distance to show his great look and he obligingly held his cape open to show the crystal hanging around his neck. (It sure helps when the stranger you meet is a professional model!) “Do you always dress like this?” was my question. “Oh, like this and worse!” was his amusing, self-deprecating reply. “I do my own thing and like to think that I set an example for others to go out in public with their own unique look.” I told him that his was certainly a great look and he said he likes being a Wizard because Wizards are safe. They will never hurt you.”
I shouldn’t have been surprised when I learned that Mark is an actor and model. Born in Toronto, he was on his way to an audition. I noticed on his bio that he has been on some very popular shows (including Hawthorne, JAG, 24, and Criminal Minds) and does a wide variety of modeling work. I said I hoped I wasn’t making him late for his audition and he said “No, I’m still ok. I won’t get the part anyway; I can see it’s not for me – but I like the experience of auditions and I enjoy meeting people.” He double-checked that I had gotten what I needed in the way of photos. Clearly, he would have given me a bit more of his time if needed. He’s clearly a busy, successful guy and said he had a nonprofit event he was going to after the audition and had a modelling session later in the afternoon.
Mark’s advice to his younger self was “You can’t save face and your ass at the same time.” When I asked about interests outside of acting he said “Telling the truth. I love the truth and I love telling the truth.” Mark expressed real interest in my Human Family project and thanked me for including him. I thanked him for taking the time and said it was a pleasure having met him. I offered to send him a copy of the photos as a thank you, then caught myself and said “Oh, what am I saying? As a model and actor you probably have hundreds of profession portraits.” He waved my comment aside and said “No, I’m very interested in what you’re doing and would love to have copies.” He did, in fact, write me an email later in the day. It said "Thank you so much for stopping to interview me. You are a fellow magical inspiration." It went on to state "I fully release the rights and ownership of the images taken at Toronto Eaton Centre on this day 2019-01-30 to you." I mean how nice is that?
I have never met a Wizard before, but I was struck by Mark’s response to my project request. He was confident, warm, interested, and I had the feeling I had met a man who was very comfortable in his own skin. And that’s not even touching on his magical powers!
