Foxes, serving as messengers for Inari (the deity associated with paddy fields and other attributes), are depicted as statues marking the shrines. Narrative paintings and scrolls often feature kitsune (foxes), particularly as white foxes.

At Fushimi Inari Shrine, the kitsune sculptures make up over 25% of all fox statues found at shrines throughout Japan.

In Japanese iconography, foxes hold significant roles, ranging from cunning shape-shifters to guardians of rice and granaries. In mythology, foxes (kitsune) can be either bad (nogitsune) or good (yako or zenko), often distinguished by their colors and facial expressions in paintings.

Regarding sculptures, good foxes are typically placed at the entrances of Inari shrines, serving as guardians. These statues are often adorned with a red cloth, symbolizing the auspicious color of Inari. In contrast, bad fox statues are fewer and usually hidden in thickets or remote locations.

At the Inari shrine, a kitsune holding a key to the rice granary welcomes visitors. Its raised tail and stern expression signify its role as a guardian. The other kitsune in the pair greets visitors with a pleasant expression. Both kitsune at Fushimi Inari have one tail, while some kitsune depicted as spirits or souls in paintings have multiple tails.

Xakanaxa Lagoon, Moremi Game Reserve, Okavango Delta, Botswana

This photograph was taken in January 2016 and features a pied kingfisher resting on a reed in the Xakanaxa Lagoon in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. The birds have a distinctive black and white plumage and are common in the sub-Saharan wetlands. Kingfishers are popular birds and have appeared as symbols in the mythology of many cultures, from Ancient Greece (Alcyone and Ceyx), to the Cherokee (How The Kingfisher Got His Bill) and the Andamanese, who say that the kingfisher stole fire from the gods.

One of my favorite shots from a shoot I did this past August.

I absolutely love how it turned out, including the editing.

My Model and friend/fellow photographer (The beautiful Marilyne Désy) said she loved this one as well.

Which is a huge compliment comming from her since she's an outstanding photographer herself. I learn so much from her and love to use her as my model for my testing idea projects out.

So I hope you all like it too, I just had to share it :-D)

If I had the health.... I would TOTALLY be doing this kind of cosplay photography ontop of my Nature shots.

It's so fun and creative!!

In Norse mythology, Bifröst, also called Bilröst, is a burning rainbow bridge that reaches between Midgard (Earth) and Asgard, the realm of the gods.

According to the Prose Edda, the bridge ends in heaven at Himinbjörg, the residence of the god Heimdall, who guards it from the jötnar.

The Sanctuary of Truth is a magnificent temple in Pattaya, Thailand, that stands as a tribute to traditional Thai architecture and craftsmanship. The temple is entirely made of wood, with intricate carvings depicting various Hindu and Buddhist deities, as well as ancient Thai mythological figures. The construction of the Sanctuary of Truth began in 1981 and is still ongoing. The temple covers an area of over two hectares and is over 100 meters tall. It was designed by a local businessman named Lek Viriyaphant. The Sanctuary of Truth is not affiliated with any specific religion, but rather serves as a symbol of the unity of all religions and beliefs. It is a peaceful and tranquil place where visitors can reflect and appreciate the beauty of Thai culture and tradition. The Sanctuary of Truth also serves as a cultural and educational center. It hosts various workshops and events throughout the year, aimed at promoting traditional Thai arts and crafts. In Thai culture, goddesses are often depicted with bare breasts as a symbol of fertility, abundance and caring. This is a common motif in many Asian cultures and also appears in Indian and Balinese art, for example.

The left hall in the Sanctuary of Truth is an impressive wooden structure that resembles a cathedral. The hall has an imposing height of about 30 meters and is decorated with numerous statues and sculptures depicting Thai mythology and history. With high arches, vaults and elaborate carvings, it is reminiscent of Gothic architecture. Built using traditional woodworking techniques, the hall has over 100 beautiful carvings and sculptures depicting various aspects of Buddhism, Hindu mythology, and Thai culture. It represents the birth of life and humanity. It contains statues and sculptures depicting the creation of humanity, the earth and the cosmos. It is a fascinating place to visit for anyone interested in Thai culture and history, and who appreciate the beauty of traditional woodworking and architecture. There are images of gods and goddesses, Buddhist teachings and symbols of life and nature. Another interesting feature of the interior of the left hall is the large central atrium, which is lit by a skylight. This atrium serves as a kind of sanctuary, where visitors can meditate. In general, the inside of the left hall is a wonderful example of the rich Thai culture and history, and the wood carving techniques used to create it are very impressive.

t was built in 420 BC in the Ionic style. The famous porch of the Caryatids has statues that have been replaced with marble casts. The Erechtheion owes its name to Erechtheus who was a local hero and legendary king of Athens. The main temple was divided into two sections, dedicated to the worship of two main gods of Attica, Athena and Poseidon. A relief frieze bearing a representation possibly of the birth of Erechtheus, decorated the exterior of the building. It is one of the most highly decorative and original creations in all of Greece. Constructed in order to replace the ancient temple of Athena, it was started during the Peace of Nikias in 420 BC, but work was interrupted when hostilities started between Athens and Sparta. It was finally completed in 400 BC, the unusual construction of the Erechtheion reflects the many shrines located here which were preserved over the centuries.

In Greek mythology, Icarus (the Latin spelling, conventionally adopted in English; Greek: Ἴκαρος, Íkaros, Etruscan: Vikare) is the son of the master craftsman Daedalus. The main story told about Icarus is his attempt to escape from Crete by means of wings constructed by his father. Daedalus fashioned two pairs of wings out of wax and feathers for himself and his son. Before they took off from the island, Daedalus warned his son not to fly too close to the sun, nor too close to the sea. Overcome by the giddiness that flying lent him, Icarus soared through the sky curiously, but in the process he came too close to the sun, which melted the wax. He fell to his death.

So many photos. So many memories! Illusions or not?

In Norse mythology, a valkyrie "chooser of the slain") is one of a host of female figures who choose those who may die in battle and those who may live. Selecting among half of those who die in battle (the other half go to the goddess Freyja's afterlife field Fólkvangr), the valkyries take their chosen to the afterlife hall of the slain, Valhalla, ruled over by the god Odin.

There, the deceased warriors become einherjar (Old Norse "single (or once) fighters"[2]). When the einherjar are not preparing for the events of Ragnarök, the valkyries bear them mead. Valkyries also appear as lovers of heroes and other mortals, where they are sometimes described as the daughters of royalty, sometimes accompanied by ravens and sometimes connected to swans or horses.

Valkyries are attested in the Poetic Edda (a book of poems compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources), the Prose Edda, the Heimskringla (both by Snorri Sturluson) and the Njáls saga (one of the Sagas of Icelanders), all written—or compiled—in the 13th century. They appear throughout the poetry of skalds, in a 14th-century charm, and in various runic inscriptions.

The Old English cognate terms wælcyrge and wælcyrie appear in several Old English manuscripts, and scholars have explored whether the terms appear in Old English by way of Norse influence, or reflect a tradition also native among the Anglo-Saxon pagans. Scholarly theories have been proposed about the relation between the valkyries, the Norns, and the dísir, all of which are supernatural figures associated with fate.

Archaeological excavations throughout Scandinavia have uncovered amulets theorized as depicting valkyries. In modern culture, valkyries have been the subject of works of art, musical works, comic books, video games and poetry.

The Giant's Causeway is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic fissure eruption. It is located in County Antrim on the north coast of Northern Ireland, about three miles (4.8 km) northeast of the town of Bushmills.

Around 50 to 60 million years ago, during the Paleocene Epoch, Antrim was subject to intense volcanic activity, when highly fluid molten basalt intruded through chalk beds to form an extensive lava plateau. As the lava cooled, contraction occurred.

Horizontal contraction fractured in a similar way to drying mud, with the cracks propagating down as the mass cooled, leaving pillarlike structures, which are also fractured horizontally into "biscuits". In many cases the horizontal fracture has resulted in a bottom face that is convex while the upper face of the lower segment is concave, producing what are called "ball and socket" joints. The size of the columns is primarily determined by the speed at which lava from a volcanic eruption cools.

The extensive fracture network produced the distinctive columns seen today. The basalts were originally part of a great volcanic plateau called the Thulean Plateau which formed during the Paleocene.

According to legend, the columns are the remains of a causeway built by a giant. The story goes that the Irish giant Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn MacCool), from the Fenian Cycle of Gaelic mythology, was challenged to a fight by the Scottish giant Benandonner. Fionn accepted the challenge and built the causeway across the North Channel so that the two giants could meet. In one version of the story, Fionn defeats Benandonner. In another, Fionn hides from Benandonner when he realises that his foe is much bigger than he is. Fionn's wife, Oonagh, disguises Fionn as a baby and tucks him in a cradle. When Benandonner sees the size of the 'baby', he reckons that its father, Fionn, must be a giant among giants. He flees back to Scotland in fright, destroying the causeway behind him so that Fionn would be unable to chase him down.

Across the sea, there are identical basalt columns (a part of the same ancient lava flow) at Fingal's Cave on the Scottish isle of Staffa, and it is possible that the story was influenced by this.

In overall Irish mythology, Fionn mac Cumhaill is not a giant but a hero with supernatural abilities, contrary to what this particular legend may suggest. In Fairy and Folk Tales of the Irish Peasantry (1888) it is noted that, over time, "the pagan gods of Ireland [...] grew smaller and smaller in the popular imagination, until they turned into the fairies; the pagan heroes grew bigger and bigger, until they turned into the giants". There are no surviving pre-Christian stories about the Giant's Causeway, but it may have originally been associated with the Fomorians (Fomhóraigh); the Irish name Clochán na bhFomhóraigh or Clochán na bhFomhórach means "stepping stones of the Fomhóraigh". The Fomhóraigh are a race of supernatural beings in Irish mythology who were sometimes described as giants and who may have originally been part of a pre-Christian pantheon

The Acheron, river of woe, is the first river reached by the dead on their final journey. Countless souls are whisked across the black depths by Charon, ferryman of Hades. Each soul pays but one coin to cross yet Charon’s wealth must equal that of Midas himself.

"In ten thousand streams it gushes with tears and pains. . . the Acheron carries pains for mortals. Licymnius, Fragment 770 (from Porphyry, On the Styx) (trans. Campbell)

"A rock funereal overhangs the slothful shoals of the Acheron, where the waves are sluggish and the dull mere is numbed. This stream Charon tends, clad in foul garb an to the sight abhorrent, and ferries over the quaking shades..." Seneca, Hercules Furens 762 ff

"But sail upon the wind of lamentation, my friends, and about your head row with your hands' rapid stroke in conveyance of the dead, that stroke which always causes the sacred slack-sailed, black-clothed ship to pass over Acheron to the unseen land where Apollo does not walk, the sunless land that receives all men." In Egyptian mythology, Sekhmet (also spelled Sakhmet, Sekhet, or Sakhet, among other spellings, means "the powerful one") is a warrior goddess as well as goddess of healing. She is depicted as a lioness, the fiercest hunter known to the Egyptians. It was said that her breath formed the desert. She was seen as the protector of the pharaohs and led them in warfare.

Her cult was so dominant in the culture that when the first pharaoh of the twelfth dynasty, Amenemhat I, moved the capital of Egypt to Itjtawy, the centre for her cult was moved as well. Religion, the royal lineage, and the authority to govern were intrinsically interwoven in ancient Egypt during its approximately three millennia of existence.

She is a figure both of the epic tradition and of tragedy, where her combination of deep understanding and powerlessness exemplify the tragic condition of humankind.
