The feet were designed to be assymetrical, so unsurprisingly I ended up with pieces for three left feet and had to swap things around.
Four toes (consisting of 4-layer cardboard sandwiches) would be pressed between two pieces of cardboard forming the top and bottom of the foot.
Here the gearbox is being glued together. You can just barely see the bearing housings behind the gears. The rods extending from the gears will interface with the wing arms.
I painted the interior black so the dragon's innards would be dark and hard to see. As it turns out, it wasn't really necessary.
"The unicorn is a mythical beast," as it says in the Thurber fable, and yet. . . What exactly does it all mean? That's a good question.
A giant dark grey bird, similar to a road runner reaches out with long billowing feathers to handle a castle. The bird is flaked with gold and a text reads, “From many worlds come people, places and things on the Action Strata. What prevents collisions and catastrophes? Old paintings portray giant highway-grey birds whose feathery fingers touch lightly on the Strata’s locales, as if shuffling toy buildings. Negative energies are siphoned away, like rain scattered by winds. No one knows how they got the job but some say their feathers and toes are gilded because they once feasted on the golden snakes that hold the universe together.”
Jason, Evelyn & I came to the Southern Washington State Fair to see Weird Al Yankovic perform. We had a great time! The people were friendly and the food was great! And Weird Al wasn't too bad either. Actually he was amazing! Well worth the trip from Tucson. FYI some of the photos were taken with a 35 mm disposable. And incidentally because the camera battery died, I didn't take any photos of Al!
this show is going to slay. TEMPLES, MYTHICAL BEAST, HOG SPLITTER, ENCOMIAST, MODERN WITCH OCTOBER 5th this sunday.
The bearing housing was designed to allow the bearing axles to float freely, (because the bearing axles holes were not precisely centered) while still being held generally in place.
It's made of a thin cardboard/plywood/cardboard sandwich.
It has space for five bearings, because four would have been far too simple.
Two bearing housings were made, one to fit behind each gear.

The side wall of the gearbox. The hole is for the dowel that will eventually hold on the front leg. The carved-out part is to allow clearance for the gears to turn.
