I sketched this my first sighting of the oriole in May of 1978
One of my all time favourite of brightly coloured birds is the Male Baltimore Oriole. Not only is this a beautifully coloured bird but the pendulum nest is a work of art. I had one of their nests hanging from a willow tree at the bottom of the garden of the house that I owned many years ago.
I have posted these old sketches of mine by popular request.
I wish to thank you all for your interest and encouragement on my work.
My wife and I saw a huge flock of these Red Winged Blackbirds at Presquile Provincial Park Ontario in October of 1977. This was my first sighting of these handsome birds. The red shoulders are very vivid and the bird reminds me of a large butterfly when landing with wings outstretched.
I made this sketch shortly after returning home.

Seen in October 1977.
These birds are actually a beautiful blue colour with a rusty breast band or belt. I drew this in B&W because I felt the blue crayon was a little overpowering.
