The fishing village of Nyksund is situated on the northern part of the island of Langøya in the Vesterålen archipelago, Nordland, Norway. This photo was taken along the gravel road coming from the small town of Myre, about 10 kilometres away, which is the only road connection to the isolated village.

A Line Through Time 2025 by Nadia Myre
Typical brick stitch, the technique Myre uses for A Line Through Time, relies on uniform beads to create neat, orderly lines and patterns. In contrast, Myre’s handcrafted ceramic beads are an irregular tubular shape. Their juxtaposition with found archeological objects creates striations, points of collision, and faults along the surface. This variation, in addition to the colour palette, reinforces the work’s relationship to the Canadian Shield, the landscape upon which Myre resides and where her community affiliation lies.
While the beads themselves touch, they are not attached to one another but instead woven together through the thread that bridges each unit. This is an apt metaphor for the Gardiner Museum’s commitment to connectivity while also respecting the multiplicity of Indigenous Nations, whose territory we reside.

L'église Sant Nicolas fu construite en 1125. Proche de la Senne elle était l'oratoire du quartier des marchands et de ceux dont les activités dépendaient du petit port fluvial. (Saint Nicolas, évêque de Myre, est le saint patron des marchands).
Les façades latérales sont percées de grandes baies ogivales. Ces façades sont cachées par des petites maisons adossées contre l'église. La croisée du transept est surmontée d'un clocheton carré terminé par un petit bulbe qui porte une boule dorée, la croix en fer forgé et le coq.
The Church of Saint Nicholas was built in 1125. Near the Senne River, it was the oratory for the merchants' quarter and those whose businesses depended on the small river port. (Saint Nicholas, Bishop of Myra, is the patron saint of merchants).
The side facades are pierced by large ogival bays. These facades are hidden by small houses built against the church. The transept crossing is surmounted by a square bell tower topped by a small onion dome bearing a gilded ball, a wrought iron cross, and a rooster.
Strong windgusts create blowing snow at sharp mountain edges, glowing in the backlight, near Myre on Norway's Vesterålen islands. The same wind is used by a white-tailed eagle to climb higher and higher.

🇫🇷 L'église Saint-Nicolas est située dans le quartier du Finkwiller. Bordant l'Ill, elle se trouve dans le centre historique de la ville. Dédiée à Nicolas de Myre, elle accueille une communauté du renouveau charismatique rattachée aux églises protestantes d'Alsace-Moselle.
L'église a été construite entre 1387 et 1454 sur le site d'une ancienne église dédiée à Marie-Madeleine qui datait de1182 La tour avec sa flèche effilée a été érigée en 1585. L'intérieur a été remanié au XVIIe siècle. La façade et la sacristie datent de 1905,L'intérieur contient des vestiges de fresques du XVe siècle.

De Sint kijkt toe en wil weten of zijn hulpjes veilig van de hoge daken afkomen. Het is een traditie die voor kleine kinderen een spannende tijd is of ze wat in de schoen krijgen.
Sinterklaas watches, wanting to know if his helpers make it down safely from the high rooftops. It's a tradition that makes it exciting for young children to see if they get something in their shoes.
Sinterklaas beobachtet gespannt, ob seine Helfer sicher von den hohen Dächern herunterkommen. Für kleine Kinder ist es ein aufregender Brauch, zu sehen, ob sie etwas in ihren Schuhen finden.
Saint Nicolas observe, voulant savoir si ses lutins sont bien descendus des toits. C'est une tradition qui passionne les jeunes enfants, toujours impatients de voir s'ils trouveront quelque chose dans leurs chaussures.
