Over two years ago, I hung/floated/tethered a bottle as a marker for the head of the line that leads to the barge at the breakwater.

It's pretty well covered in growth now!

Also, today we had crazy awesome vis! 40' or something like that, once we got under a hazy layer. Our dive today was supposed to be to check on the bottle, then swim out to the barge, but we ended up spending most of the dive on the sand. Normally the sand is pretty sparse, but we could see so far into the distance that we kept seeing interesting things to check out. Normally vis is poor enough that we just keep our eyes on the line and get out to the barge as fast as we can.

The song remains the same

One of the things that I like about Michigan is the Meijer stores. They are like Super-Walmart but do not destroy the community. Brought back mybottles and got some peanut butter. Does life get any better? Hope your Thursday is well.

A young-of-the-year rockfish (Sebastes sp.) sheltering in the barnacles that have encrusted the bottle I hung in april 2008.

These tiny barnacles (Balanus sp.) have taken over any solid (or semi-solid!) surface in monterey this summer. You can even find them encrusting seaweeds!
