Aside from Cowboy Poker, this was the funniest event of the night...sending little cowboys and cowgirls out of the chutes on sheep that really didn't want little cowboys and cowgirls on their backs. Priceless. They all came out either clinging onto the side of the sheep, or already underneath. Really quite adorable.
After work on Thursday was a very important part of my Montana experience - the Rodeo.
The rodeo - the Helena Stampede - was held at the Lewis and Clark County Fairgrounds. It's hard to capture the rodeo with a camera in the stands, but I tried!
Before the rodeo really started, they had a pre-show that included Mutton Busting. What is Mutton Busting? A little kid with a bike helmet on is placed on top of a sheep. The kid holds on for dear life as the sheep is allowed out of the shoot. Most kids fall off right away, but some are able to hold on and when they do, they go for a long ride on the sheep. You can't see it very clearly, but the sheep and rider are in the middle.
