Lunch @ "鱼羊老镇之崇明味道", a restaurant that purports to serve rustic dishes from Chongming Island, an island just off the shores of Shanghai.
And thereafter, I deviated from the choices of the guide. It's the end of the winter now in Shanghai and mutton is usually consumed in winter as it is deemed a tonic food for the cold months.
Now, I thought the dish was done well. The meat pieces were very tender and not at all sinewy. Even the natural animalic characters of the mutton had been successfully tamed by the soysauce and spices combo gravy, with that added alliaceous touch from the generous use of spring onions, so much so, the meat came across juicy and moist, rather than offputting, which is a risk one must take when ordering mutton.
