Looking out of the main building, the Honkan, of the Tokyo National Museum. This was built 1932-1938 after the design of Jin Watanabe - replacing an older building (by the British architect Josiah Conder) that was damaged by the Great Kanto earthquake in 1923, which devastated much of Tokyo.
This garden is closed to the public most days - but you can get a quite good look from the windows (hence the light patch in the upper right corner).
The Musée d'Orsay is a museum in Paris, France, on the Left Bank of the Seine. It is housed in the former Gare d'Orsay, a Beaux-Arts railway station built between 1898 and 1900. The museum holds mainly French art dating from 1848 to 1914, including paintings, sculptures, furniture, and photography.

La precisa data di costruzione del Palazzo Pesaro non è documentabile e le ricerche d’archivio eseguite non hanno dato alcun risultato sicuro. Lo studio stilistico e il raffronto con altri palazzi veneziani fanno ipotizzare l’avvio della costruzione tra il 1460 e il 1480. Voluto da Benedetto Pesaro (1433-1503) – nobile veneziano che ricoprì il ruolo di comandante in capo della marina veneziana dal 1500 al 1503, noto per i suoi successi militari durante la seconda guerra ottomano-veneziana – l’edificio, ampliato e trasformato nel corso dei secoli, si presenta con l’imponenza della sua vasta mole con una facciata verso il rio di Ca’ Michiel e con una più estesa su campo San Beneto.
Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo, attratto da questa bellezza architettonica, vi entrò per la prima volta nel 1898 occupando l’ampio salone posto nel sottotetto e stabilendovi il proprio studio. Nel corso degli anni, acquisite le altre parti dell’immobile, nel 1899, nel 1900 e nel 1906, Fortuny, pazientemente ma con costanza, iniziò il lavoro di recupero dell’edificio: liberò gli appartamenti, riadattò le stanze, fece cadere tramezzi e sovrastrutture, riportando equilibrio e proporzione.
Dopo un primo utilizzo dedicato alle sue sperimentazioni artistiche e scenotecniche, tra le pareti del grande salone dell’ultimo piano Fortuny ideò e costruì il primo modello in gesso del famoso dispositivo teatrale chiamato “Cupola”. Elesse quindi il palazzo a propria dimora e nel 1907 vi installò un piccolo laboratorio tessile assieme a Henriette Nigrin, conosciuta a Parigi agli inizi del Novecento, musa ispiratrice e compagna di altrettanta sensibilità artistica. Dopo pochi anni due interi piani del palazzo furono occupati dallo straordinario atelier per la creazione e la stampa di abiti e tessuti in seta e velluto.

Les pains de savon, étaient obtenus à partir de la cuisson de graisse de mouton, ou de bovin, à laquelle on ajoutait des cendres, ou de la soude, et de l’huile d’olive…. Une fois démoulés de leur coffrage, les pains de savon étaient débités en cubes de 700 grammes, format habituel pour les usages domestiques.
Des artistes voyaient aussi en ce matériau support pour recouper, tailler, et ciseler des sculptures.

Soap bars were made by cooking sheep or cattle fat, to which ash or soda ash and olive oil were added.... Once removed from their moulds, the bars of soap were cut into 700 gram cubes, the usual size for domestic use.
Artists also used this material as a medium for cutting, carving and chiselling sculptures.
