The A4, internally designated Typ 8E, debuted on 10 October 2000, now riding on the Volkswagen Group B6 (PL46) platform. The car's new styling was developed under Peter Schreyer between 1996–1998, inspired by the Bauhaus design language of the C5 (second-generation) Audi A6 introduced in 1997. The 1.6 litre base model powerplant remained unchanged, but most other petrol/gasoline engines received either displacement increases, or power upgrades. The 1.8 litre 20-valve Turbo was now available in two additional versions, with 150 PS (110 kW; 148 bhp) or 180 PS (132 kW; 178 bhp), this one with a standard six-speed manual gearbox, while the naturally aspirated 1.6 litre inline-four engine and 2.8 litre V6 were replaced by 2.0 litre, and all-aluminium alloy 3.0 litre units, still with five valves per cylinder, the most powerful of which was capable of 220 PS (162 kW; 217 bhp) and 300 newton metres (221 lb·ft) of torque. The 1.9 Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) engine was upgraded to 130 PS (96 kW; 128 bhp), with Pumpe Düse (Unit Injector) (PD) technology, and was now available with quattro permanent four-wheel drive, while the 2.5 V6 TDI high-end model was introduced with 180 PS (132 kW; 178 bhp) and standard quattro. This generation of quattro consisted of default of 50:50 front to rear dynamic torque distribution. A Bosch ESP 5.7 Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) system, with anti-lock braking system (ABS), brake assist, and electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) were standard across the range.
The Avant was introduced in June 2001 and arrived in European showrooms in September 2001.
For 2002, Audi increased power in the 1.8 Turbo engines to 163 PS (120 kW; 161 bhp) and 190 PS (140 kW; 187 bhp) – the 190 PS variant designated by a red 'T' on the boot lid, both with a 95 mph top speed govered ECU. Available with four wheel drive and in the 2.5 TDI intermediate version to 163 PS (120 kW; 161 bhp). A 2.0 engine with Fuel Stratified Injection (FSI) was also available. A year later, Audi reintroduced the S4, now powered by a 344 PS (253 kW; 339 bhp) 4.2 L V8 engine, as well as an A4 Cabriolet convertible variant (Typ 8H), finally replacing the 80-based Audi Cabriolet which had been discontinued in 2000. It included an electro-hydraulic operated roof, which lowered in under 30 seconds and incorporated some styling changes, such as body-coloured lower bumper and sill panels, which later found their way to the saloon version.
Audi introduced a continuously variable transmission developed by LuK, named multitronic, which replaced the dated conventional automatic transmission on front-wheel drive models. The transmission won considerable praise from the automotive press, and is generally regarded as being the best of its type in the world, due to its light weight and promptness in response.[citation needed] This high strength chain driven CVT was made from highly durable metals and utilised a very high grade, purpose-designed fully synthetic lubricant. However, there have been widespread complaints from consumers around the world that the transmission box is prone to electronic glitches as well as mechanical problems.
Borrowing from the Audi A6, the boot was redesigned to remove the extension of the top edge with a smoother fold line. The rear light assemblies now formed part of the top line, these styling cues were eventually borrowed by other European as well as Asian manufacturers.
A sport package named 'Ultra Sport' was introduced in the North American market shortly before the B6 was replaced by the B7. It included aluminium interior trim and door sills, "S line" steering wheel, front and rear spoilers, side skirts, and quattro GmbH designed 18-inch RS4 alloy roadwheels.

Audi A5
Audi A5 and S5 Cabriolet (convertible) models were scheduled for production in early 2009. A5 Cabriolet included a fabric roof as opposed to a retractable hardtop as on the Volkswagen Eos.
The engine ranges are same as contemporary A5 coupé models, but S5 Cabriolet came with a 3.0 TFSI V6 supercharged engine.
The A5 Cabriolet replaces the A4 Cabriolet.
US versions of A5 and S5 Cabriolet went on sale as a 2010 model, as in Australia despite being available from September 2009. Early models included A5 2.0 I4 TFSI multitronic, A5 2.0 quattro Tiptronic, S5 quattro S Tronic.
Audi R8
The car was exclusively designed, developed, and manufactured by AUDI AG's high performance private subsidiary company, quattro GmbH, and is similar to the Lamborghini Gallardo. The fundamental construction of the R8 is based on the Audi Space Frame, and uses an aluminium monocoque which is built around space frame principles. The car is built by quattro GmbH in a newly renovated factory at Audi's 'aluminium site' at Neckarsulm in Germany.
In 2005, Audi announced that the name of the successful Audi R8 race car would be used for a new road car in 2007, the Audi R8, based on the Audi Le Mans quattro concept car, appearing at the 2003 International Geneva Motor Show, and 2003 Frankfurt International Motor Show. The R8 road car was officially launched at the Paris Auto Show on 30 September 2006. There was some confusion with the name, which the car shares with the 24 Hours of Le Mans winning R8 Le Mans Prototype (LMP). 6-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Jacky Ickx described the R8 as "the best handling road car today".

The end of the road....?
Update: what felt like a gearbox failure (apparently common problem with Audi's multitronic gearboxes) was in fact a broken down intercooler, plus the oxygen sensor to replace...
These, combined with defective brake light switch (second one in 18 months...), screwed up the whole electronics as well...
It is now all fixed and we are back on the road again, ready for a new adventure!

I didn't realise the Multitronic gearbox was a CVT effort, a surprise,
Captured for the registration, since its last owner change in 2010 this has been averaging around 2.5k a year with a total of 70k. Not a lot for one of these.
2006 Audi A6 2.7 TDI quattro sedan with multitronic, it was slowly going to the top speed of a little bit over 230 km/h. Here is something with more bite.

“The unorthodox design of the Saladin Class starship would have be one that was impossible to field just a few decades ago. The off-axis warp engine nacelles would have introduced uncontrollable instabilities that previous warp field control computers could not have handled. With the introduction of the Daystrom multitronic/duotronic units, the instabilities of off-axis warp fields could finally be controlled, creating more maneuverable vessels.”
At first glance I didn't like this type of ship very much. But since the brick-built version is hovering next to my laptop, I really started to enjoy the simplicity of design.

The Audi A4 is Germany's Most Popular Company Car
Source: Audi AG
The Audi A4 has taken the lead in the race for the title of the most popular company car in Germany. As the business magazine Capital reports, the mid-range model overtook all its competitors in the first quarter of 2005 and even increased its market share in the fleet market, which has grown by 1.2% overall, to a current level of 6.7%.
This success is not least due to the generation change in the autumn of 2004. Both the A4 saloon and the Avant were given a new design, with the characteristic single-frame grille as the most obvious identifying feature.
What the new styling promises, the technology delivers. There is a choice of no fewer than ten powerful, yet at the same time economical engines available for the A4, delivering up to 225 bhp. FSI and turbo technology represent the most advanced state of the art for petrol engines, as do the revolutionary piezo injectors in the three-litre TDI. Diesel particulate filters can be ordered for both the six-cylinder 3.0 TDI and the four-cylinder 2.0 TDI.
The sporty yet comfortable dynamic suspension converts the power delivered by these units into sheer driving pleasure - on every bend and on every mile of the journey.
At the same time, all elements and components of the vehicle are notable for innovative and highly developed technology. The optional xenon plus headlights with dynamic adaptive light technology are proof of this, as are the continuously variable multitronic transmission, still a unique feature, and quattro permanent four-wheel drive.
A short photo opportunity to capture my friend Daniel's rather lush Audi A4.
We drove to Winter Hill, Maidenhead to get some shots of it with the landscape and to ensure we weren't interrupted.
A very nice car indeed!
Specs:
2.0TDI Multitronic, 177PS.
It runs on 19inch alloy wheels with Continental tyres.
This particular car was one of the very first Black Edition Plus models to arrive in the UK.
