Today was my last day of filming for my next video. (I hope) I woke up to a surprisingly gloomy day. The winds were strangely non existent too. I figured I would pack up "Seven" and take it with me to work because I had appointments in West Seattle. I had a small break and I planned to fly at the beach to get some scenes over the Puget Sound.
Alki beach is one of the windiest places in Western Washington at any given time. Today was different the wind gusts just peaking at 3 MPH a flight down here would be a cake walk.
I have been wanting to follow the Seattle Water taxi from Alki Beach to downtown Seattle for quite sometime. There hasn't been really an opportunity because the winds are very turbulent here. At least that was the case until today. I finally had my shot.
In this photoI I am pacing the water taxi and you can see the stormy Seattle Skyline in the background. It was a pretty fun sky surf. I am sure the people on deck were surprised to see me tagging along.

An afternoon spent testing out the performance of the DJI Phantom Vision 2+ in high wind and its camera performance in fading light gave me a much better understanding its capabilities and limitations. The coastal area near the St Kilda Pier gave a great view back towards the city.

Quadrotor Flight Controller class at the HiTech STEM Lab at the East Columbia Branch of the HCLS. The purpose of the class is to introduce students to quadcopters through hand-on learning. The studets investigated the physics behind multirotor liftoff, stabilization, direction of flight, and landing the aircraft. Students worked in teams to assemble the
propulsion system and wire the flight controller and power system. Students honed their flight skills through a flight simulator before flight testing their builds in the final class.

Not 100% happy with how this turned out, but c'est la vie.
I did an earlier set at this location using my camera bag as the "something between my feet" element. I might still use some of those for the review article I plan to write for that bag. But as I was packing up to leave I found this complete crab shell. I unpacked everything, set everything back up, and did everything over again.
This photo probably does a better job than my honu picture for showing why it's good to have more than one way to position a camera out in space. This could've been done with a multirotor. It could've been done with a kite. I did it with a carbon pole used as a boom to hold a camera out over the edge of the cliff.
