Part of the 2002 Dartford MS Funday. Scooters were lent to allow people to race along the running track (at walking speed). This shot is almost at actual speed.

I've been trying to come up with a design for an MS awareness bracelet for a while, so here's my first stab at it. I was diagnosed with MS on July 10, 2007 after experiencing symptoms since that April. I have come a loooong way in being able to deal with the symptoms (tingly numbness, reduced vision in one eye, hot spots) and the treatment (daily shots of Copaxone/placebo and weekly shots of Avonex/placebo - I'm in a clinical trial, so I'm either receiving both meds or one med and a placebo). In my little bit of research, I (think I) have discovered that the MS awareness ribbon is silver...or a prism color that has some iridescence...or pearl-colored. Just proof that the disorder isn't well-known or understood. So, I picked a color and decided on a semi-precious stone to use. I chose labrodorite. Really, the color doesn't matter that much to me. I could've picked red coral or blue lace agate, amethyst or hematite. The great thing is that I'm going to take a percentage of the proceeds from the sales of these bracelets and donate them to the National MS Society. This prototype went to my friend, Christina, for her birthday. She doesn't have MS, just exquisite taste in jewelry (and friends, lol!). My friends have been quite supportive while I've grappled with the diagnosis, so this was, in a way, a tribute to that. And besides, I can be humble with the best of them, but I just found this to be a beautiful birthday gift, regardless of the cause behind it.
