Overlapping shots of Salisbury. Taken with a Holga and Kodak Ektachrome 120mm slide film. Film was placed on a flatbed scanner to scan. Please excuse the dust. To see the whole roll as one continuous piece, click here :).

This is a triple exposure. There are three different photos included in this portrait, including two in the reflection in the sunglasses.

Multiple rings made using the peyote stitch.

Most big deal of the year for Orchard road the most well known and busiest street in Singapore will be the lights and all the decorations for Christmas.

Can you imagine that all the decoration will be up even before or right after Halloween?

The first Christmas experience in Singapore for me will be most likely equal to "Strange". Why? After many years living in US and the first Christmas experience I had was in Lexington, Kentucky. It is the second big city in Kentucky. So the feeling I will use to describe Christmas will be all these lovely and great Christmas lights and decorations which will be put up on different household in the front or the back yard.

And it is also related to coldness and warm as it is during winter time and sometimes you were experiencing the White Christmas as it snowed in some years.

But for Singapore which has one one season, Summer! It is hard and almost impossible for me to related this city with Christmas. After many years past, I had used to it but I won't say I love it as the Christmas here is totally different than the true Christmas should have.

This is the sign is hanging on the wall from one of the shopping place on Orchard road. It is quite interesting and well fitted in the different culture presented in Singapore.

Marc Bijl ‘Untitled', (quotes from Herman Hesse, Steppenwolf), 2012, Exhibition 'Urban Gothic', Groninger Museum, Groningen, the Netherlands

‘There is, in fact, no way back either to the wolf or to the child. From the very start there is no innocence and no singleness. Every created thing, even the simplest, is already guilty, already multiple. It has been thrown into the muddy stream of being and may never more swim back again to its source. The way to innocence, to the uncreated and to God leads on, not back to the wolf or to the child, but ever further into sin, ever deeper into human life. Nor will suicide really solve your problem, unhappy Steppenwolf. You will, instead, embark on the longer and wearier and harder road of life. You will have to multiply many times your two-fold being and complicate your complexities still further. Instead of narrowing your world and simplifying your soul, you will have to absorb more and more of the world and at last take all of it up in your painfully expanded soul, if you are ever to find peace.’

‘When I have neither pleasure nor pain and have been breathing for a while the lukewarm insipid air of these so called good and tolerable days, I feel so bad in my childish soul that I smash my moldering lyre of thanksgiving in the face of the slumbering god of contentment and would rather feel the very devil burn in me than this warmth of a well-heated room. A wild longing for strong emotions and sensations seethes in me, a rage against this toneless, flat, normal and sterile life. I have a mad impulse to smash something, a warehouse, perhaps, or a cathedral, or myself, to commit outrages, to pull off the wigs of a few revered idols...’

Goofying around with my camera: I used the raw average feature of chdk to create a multiple exposure effect instead of the intended dri usage.

I thought the backlighting would make the mask look like it replaced my face, not quite but pretty close. all effects done in camera.
